The theme for this weekend, 27 - 29 of November, will be "watches and our other passions/hobbies"

Nov 26, 2020,06:33 AM

Before I start, just want to thank Cpt for inviting me to host WristScan this weekend. Although I have received multiple invitations prior, this was the first time I accepted and could put a bit of time and effort into hosting 😁

So we discussed possible themes and as you all know by now, I am partial to animal companions (notice how I didn't say furry companions Ted πŸ€£πŸ˜‚) but I guess that would have limited some members from participating if they did not have an animal companion so ai had to broaden the scope a bit more.

Eventually I settled on "watches and our other hobbies/passions" as I feel we all have other interests that overlap with our love for watches. I know many who collect or are passionate about pens, cars, travel, sports, etc...so I think this topic would pertain to everyone.

In any case, it will be fun to see some of the other interests WPS members have and share in common.

Here's a sample photo of one of my other interests πŸ˜‰

Let’s see what people come up with.

Superb challenge

You’ve picked the kind of cross-over I really like. My wife suggested to put my collection of golf clubs next to the watches (she thinks I’m buying new clubs too often but that’s not true, I only buy them when the new models are out) So I’ll think if some...

LOL, you and me both πŸ˜‚πŸ€£. If I were to line up all the golf clubs I own or have stored away, I would have a wide enough lens to take the photo...

No exaggeration, I think I have owned over 100 sets of clubs in my lifetime but that includes many from sponsors, OEM manufacturers, and friends in the golf industry that were custom made to my specs and gifted to me since I was one of the testers for the...

Sounds like you are a very serious golfer

Looking forward meeting you one day and play that round

You already know a bit about it. Have been playing for over 35 years, since childhood basically...

Don't know about serious but certainly at a competitive and collegiate level πŸ˜‰ The reason I have so many clubs is due to be a tester, basically a guinea pig, for a few golf labs and custom build shops. I was one of 5 people who would test all the new equi...

I have owned a couple of Danitrios -- the nibs were never to my liking -- so I ended up letting them go.

But, they surely know how to make beautiful pens as yours attests!!

Shame you let them go. I only collect fountain pens but do have some rollers which are a necessity when called for...

As for nibs, I have really never liked any standard nib besides maybe a couple Sailor nibs. All of the pens I own have had their nibs custom ground by a nibmeister during the ordering process or after I received them if they were no longer available. I fi...

This theme rocks ! ...

Very cool, especially the Mayan pen! who made that?

Don't have a Mayan pen πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Which one?

 By: holdemchamp1225 : November 27th, 2020-11:04
If you mean the gold Maki-E, then it is a Danitrio Genkai custom LE of 8 pieces. It is considered an oversized pen, equivalent to a Namiki Emperor in size. It's a big boy 😜. You can just Google Danitrio and go to their website to have a look if you are cu...

Wow!! That is a stunning pen and lolz...

That Maki-E pen is an art!

Maki-E is a special technique where a master artisan paints on the gold in a paint with tiny brushes. Chinkin is an entirely different technique where the base is a lacquer, patterns are cut in relief into the lacquer, and then gold foil is rubbed into th...

Spot on Patrick. I have a rather large collection of Urushi, Maki-E, and Chinkin pens from Danitrio and Namiki with a few from Sailor and Nakaya as well. True Japanese art for sure...
