The Ox and his pal Cy held court at The Rainbow Bar and Grill . . .

Jun 05, 2021,21:22 PM

. . . for many years, Captain.  Had the pleasure of meeting him, and after his passing, got to be well acquainted with Cy.  I believe Cy (short for Cyrano, on account of his rather large nose) is still in LA, but haven't seen him for quite awhile.  Saw Entwistle perform once with The Who in LA in '88; this was the concert where I had to camp out in line the night before tickets went on sale to get a good seat.

Never saw Moonie perform, sad to say . . . he was gone before I had a chance.  No car and less money in '76 during his last tour; the only band I saw that year was the Beach Boys, memorably on the Fourth of July at Anaheim Stadium.  Santana and America opened, if you can believe that.

Speaking of the Beach Boys, their bassist in the recording studio, Carol Kaye, was just as notable a session player as Entwistle was onstage.

Which is to say, legendary.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but when I think of a great drummer the name that immediately comes to mind is Neil Peart.

Ah yes, Don Henley!!!
