Before launching into category finalists, I'd like to share one more personal hero, or more accurately, set of heroes.
The Sullivan Brothers exemplified the virtues of patriotism and sacrifice.
They enlisted together after Pearl Harbor and served together on the light cruiser USS Juneau, sunk during the Battle of Guadacanal by a submarine of the Imperial Navy. All five perished.
The essence of heroism is sacrifice, in my humble opinion.
