First off, I know this is not original.
This watch started out many years ago as a 1981 16014 datejust with a fluted bezel and yellow Buckley dial. That I kept in my collection mainly due to it being my birth year.
Then 3 Christmases or so ago, my wife was doing her holiday shopping in a small antiques oriented mall and saw a painted Mickey Mouse dial and handset for sale.
At that time, my wife didn’t know much about watches in general, but knew I liked vintage Watch related things, and so she bought the dial for me as a Christmas present.
A short visit to a watchmaker later, and after sourcing a smooth bezel that could fit, and here it was.
I’m pretty sure the dial is aftermarket, and essentially the watch is probably worthless, but I’ve kept it that way, because every time I look at it it reminds me of the time my wife tried to understand this crazy hobby of ours.
