My story from Omega to Rolex is as follows....nothing too adventurous but it proves how customer service is essential.
Jan 24, 2019,08:41 AM
I was looking at the Omega James Bond Spectre model before it even came out, I called multiple dealers until I decided to go with one, their promise was that 99.9% chance that I'll obtain one, they had 5 on order and I was number 2 on the list. So I waited not even knowing what the model would look like, I asked if I could wait until the movie came out, they said of course, but then a week after they contacted me saying they needed the full deposit or the timepiece couldn't be secure, it was fine with me and with the promise of a 100% refund if I didn't like it was all I needed to get suckered in.
The movie came out I fell in love with the watch, dealer called saying they received one and the first buyer purchased it but I would get my piece soon. A month went by with no call, I called back and they told me now the percentage had changed, a 90% chance that I'll have one by next month, my friend who is also a WIS told me he just received a Spectre from this same dealer (he indicated he was number 4 on the list) so my brain went into disappointed mode...I was number 2 but number 4 had obtained one :O
Here is the Rolex curve ball, that same week (before I cancelled the order) I went into a meeting and a colleague brought his Father's 69 Rolex Daytona Panda, it was love, but I was already in an almost committed relationship with Omega, how could I go to the Dark side and become a Rolex guy and not cheat? Thankfully, after my AD called with the bad news that I would 99% chance not receive an Omega Spectre. Secretly that was great, I maintained my "do not cheat on watches" status and I told them to cancel my order and refund me the money. As soon as that call was over.....I went into Rolex Daytona mode, calling every AD in the country
....no one had one(I was even laughed at on the phone and bet that I couldn't find one, the sales associate said he would pay me if I found one) how could they not have one, it was almost Christmas ! (typing this I see how silly this statement is now), so I called the last AD I never thought would have one in my city, and I ended up walking out with this, the last Daytona in the country before the new model Ceramic came out (I much prefer mine over the Ceramic)
This piece started a new obsession and a couple Rolexes have entered the fold, strangely not a lot of Omegas have come in and whenever I've tried to buy from Omega they always throw some weird curve ball that makes me re-think buying a new one
