I was going to school in Paris in the early seventies. Final exams were approaching, I felt pressured to do well, hectic times, I could not miss the exams schedule. I didn’t have a watch. I hardly had any money. It was a different era. Walking by Châtelet, going to visit a friend to prepare for the exams, I saw a window where they had a watch sale. $4 (four American dollars) for a watch that looked beautiful and very “professional” to me. I sacrificed a couple of lunches and bought the watch. I would never let it go. So many wonderful memories. I felt I looked like Sartre with that watch. And it helped me pass my exams successfully.
