My favorite city . . .
Nov 16, 2019,10:42 AM
. . . barely qualifies as a town.
Sunset Beach, California, is the one-and-a-half mile seaward side of Pacific Coast Highway between Seal Beach to the north and Huntington Beach to the east and south. It was until recently an independent community, but absorbed by Huntington Beach a few years ago. The name still applies, but for all intents and purposes it's part of HB.
Why is it my favorite? Because it's unpretentious. Quiet, casual, neither trendy nor a destination. And best of all, simple. Most So Cal beach locales conjure luxury lifestyles: Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, La Jolla. Not Sunset. You'd be amazed at how many regular working people reside here.
And, as Nicolas would say, it plays host . . .
. . . to my headquarters, the famous seaside bar cum pool hall that's absorbed countless hours of lounging, not to mention . . .
. . . memorable shots galore on their two pool tables. Visiting members of our community have made the rounds, including, most recently . . .
. . . Stromer and Beate.
For many years, I regularly took wrist shots on the beach, often at sunset.
Ended the practice a while ago; perhaps it's time to start over again. Here's a relatively recent pic . . .
. . . taken a few months ago.
