Let's share our favorite actors and actresses along with the watch we're wearing . . .

Apr 02, 2021,08:53 AM

. . . in anticipation of the Academy Awards later this month.

Up 'til fairly recently, my favorites were mostly represented by 'big guns': McQueen . . .

. . . O'Toole . . .

. . . Sellers . . .

. . . Sutherland . . .

. . . Cooper . . .

. . . and perhaps most of all, Guinness.

Same for actresses: Sophia . . .

. . . Jean . . .

. . . Sandy.

(Notice how men are addressed by their last names and women by given. smile  )

Nowadays, though, I'm finding myself appreciating character actors and actresses more.

Ronald Squire . . .

. . . Nigel Bruce . . .

. . . and most of all, Eugene Pallette.

Character actresses, too, though not to the same degree: Jo Van Fleet . . .

. . . and Joan Greenwood . . .

. . . come to mind.

So who are your favorite guys and gals on the silver screen?  Kindly share them along with the watch you're wearing presently.

I was wearing the Flightmaster . . .

. . . until yesterday, but retrieved one of my latest acquisitions from the watchmaker last afternoon, and will post a photo or two later on.

Here my entry answering the Theme dear Art:

 By: Subexplorer : April 2nd, 2021-10:31
As said, my actors and actresses I’m fond if is so long... I will just name a few: Diana Rigg (the Avengers 1960’s and Bond’s wife Tracy in At Her Majesty SS) Vanessa Redgrave (Blow Up) Charlize Theron Jacqueline Bisset Sean Connery John Wayne Cary Grant ...

What is Vanessa wearing?…

 By: pplater : April 2nd, 2021-11:09
(Yes, she is wearing something!) Is that a Blancpain? A milspec Rolex? Cheers, pplater.

Hello Pplater! It is curious that she is wearing a rare Rolex Submariner ref 5513 with an Explorer (3-6-9) dial! Worn on a black (probably leather) set of straps. Very interesting.

 By: Subexplorer : April 2nd, 2021-11:21
I remember viewing this film in around 1967 when it was just released and was amazed to view her wearing a Submariner above her shirt cuffs but didn´t noticed then that it had an Explorer dial till a few weeks ago when this detail was revealed in the net....

Great research!…

 By: pplater : April 2nd, 2021-11:39
It is so prominent it could almost be an early example of product placement. Cheers, pplater.

Thank you Pplater. I was a fan of that film and had just received my first Rolex a 5513 Sub from my parents just a few months before the picture so I was very excited to view that watch on ...

 By: Subexplorer : April 2nd, 2021-11:50

Wayne's acting ability was underrated, in my humble opinion. He was pretty much . . .

 By: Dr No : April 3rd, 2021-12:48
. . . one-dimensional, but within that limitation he was capable of displaying emotion with both his voice and facial expressions. At the height of his powers in The Searchers , as evidenced . . . . . . by these scenes. Art

Agree with you dear Art. Also he is always remembered by his Western films (of course some of them were formidable classics!) but he played other roles as well: soldier, wild animal hunter...

 By: Subexplorer : April 4th, 2021-06:27
... pilot, etc.. Among my favorite Wayne films I can name these two: The High and the Mighty were he played a troubled airline pilot (with a wonderful music theme) and the Shootist with another actor I love so much: James Stewart. Cheers! Abel ...

Robert D Jr. or Alis Hodge!

Ah! I understand you Spencer. If you wish to enter into the world of watches it is not necessary to spend a lot of money to get a timepiece that will make you smile every time you view it on...

Hello dear Abel ...

Thank you for your kind message. It’s a powerful film, so powerful that Martin Sheen had a mental breakdown during filming. Happy Easter to you and your family. Best regards The Captain

Hello dear Captain. My big pleasure. A powerful film indeed. Yes, I´m aware about Sheen breakdown and other problems during filming. I need to view it again I feel now.

IMHO most epic war movie

Definitely 👍

Brando is the actor cited often by other actors . . .

 By: Dr No : April 3rd, 2021-16:23
. . . as 'the best'. And that may be well and true. But Duvall's . . . . . . no slouch, either. Thanks for sharing, Cap!

Well, now I'm wearing my most recent vintage Omega acquisition . . .

 By: Dr No : April 3rd, 2021-16:31
. . . finally fitted with a correct crown. Uncommon bordering on rare: '49 ref 2518, cal 343. ...

What a character!

 By: amanico : April 3rd, 2021-23:29

I would mention Diana Rigg, for sure, but also Kim Basinger, Penelope Cruz... But if it has to be related to actors and watches, then SMQ, Sean Connery, Pussy Galore come to mind...

 By: amanico : April 3rd, 2021-02:01

Glad to know you also mention Diana Rigg dear Nicolas! And of course Connery. Curiously both Honor Blackman/Pussy Galore and Diana Rigg turned "Bond Girls" after the Avengers.

Your Tudor Sub BC is a real killer my friend. Easy to understand your big love for this one. (as your 6542 of course). You share them in some stunning shots. Have a nice week end Nicolas. Felices Pascuas! Abrazos, Abel

Omega's ref 2518 was one of the first auto chronometer references made after the Centenary issues . . .

 By: Dr No : April 4th, 2021-15:41

We've worked variations of this theme before . . .

 By: Dr No : April 3rd, 2021-15:34
. . . to good effect, Robin, so when Captain Scarlet asked if I could moderate a session, actors and actresses came to mind. I believe prior attempts were favorite films and favorite film scenes, athlete, and musician, but not specifically actor/actress. ...

I can highly recommend this technique, dearest Abel 😀

By: COUNT DE MONET : April 4th, 2021-06:42
I drink two drams (a dram is 40 cl) per hour and count them very discretely with the watch. If I reach 8, I skip drams for one hour and drink only water. Then I start drinking whisky again and reach up to 14, with skipping for one hour again inbetween the...

. . . this was coming. Yeah, Pitt's pretty damn good . . .

Were you aware of the uproar among the nerds over this fight scene?

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 3rd, 2021-16:31
People were PISSED that Tarantino could insinuate that Pitt’s character could possibly win a fight against Bruce Lee. He had to answer questions defending his position. Just amazing.

Tarantino’s defense

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 3rd, 2021-16:36

Yup, that's the clip I just saw . . .

Pulp Fiction Natural Born Killer Kill Bill Reservoir Dogs Jackie Brown True Romance Inglorious Bastard Dango Unchained The Hateful Eight I love them all. He can somehow resurrect actor/actress in a different way.

Wow, I had no clue he wrote True Romance

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 3rd, 2021-17:07
It totally makes sense... the part just before Dennis Hopper gets blown away is sooo Tarantino. I gotta go watch that movie again.

😁🥂

Have you seen much Larry Clark?

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 3rd, 2021-18:30
Not the easiest films to find, but highly gritty and enjoyable

Thats a great movie and the most commercial by far

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 3rd, 2021-19:38
His other films are wayyyy grittier. Kids, Wassup Rockers, Bully all kind seem like the same movie but worth watching. Start with Kids to see if you can stomach more. Not a good movie for date night!!!

+1! Classics!
