I understand your point as I feel every collector arrives to a point of turn at one stage of this long and meandrous journey of collecting objects. I guess sometimes this can happen several times as our tastes change, our experience lets discover other horizons, etc.
You should keep calm, not take decisions till you are not sure about the course of your trip. Vintage collecting is a complicated but very rewarding aspect of watch collecting. Regrettably the price levels have scalated so high lately that some pieces, speciallly those from the most important brands have escalated beyond our reach.
Also vintage requires a thorough previous knowledge of the piece you are trying to hunt.
Regarding engraving, you should balance pros and cons. It will make your watch a very personal object which may or may not be of the taste of others if you decide to sale or trade later. I feel it will be a keeper for life and a heirloom for your family.
As I said before. It's a very personal decision.
I wish you will keep enjoying your journey so much and that you' ll discover the new turn you will give to your collecting.
Best cordial reguards, Abel
