I really just stumbled upon this one. Always searching for vintage GS and often those little shops in the back alleys carrying cheap old GS also...

....often have other cheap old Seikos. The “cheap” may not be so true any more as many of these vintage GS and Seiko have doubled or tripled in price in the last several years.

That’s a cool Porsche design Christian 👌

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 13th, 2019-04:46
Don’t sell just enjoy 🥂

Thank you so much, Cpt

 By: ChristianDK : September 13th, 2019-04:51
Yes, it seems to be stuck with me haha!

Another reason it might be stuck with you

 By: cazalea : September 13th, 2019-07:54
the same reason several of mine are stuck with me! A very sad note from IWC saying "Don't send it to us, we don't want it either!" Cazalea ...

Oh dear. This one runs well though, since it seems never to really have been used.

 By: ChristianDK : September 13th, 2019-09:48
Do you have any of the IWC pieces, Mike?

I have some watches, yes

 By: cazalea : September 13th, 2019-15:49
I do have some of the IWC / PD - yes. but no spare parts for this I do have a number of catalogs from back then and my friend Martin has this remake of yours which he lets me wear ...

It was an interesting epoch for IWC

 By: ChristianDK : September 22nd, 2019-08:21
I am surprised there is a remake. I wasn’t aware! By IWC ? It seems I’m not the only one in the world who find the model interesting. The remake is a bit different in that you see your arm trough the compass. Thanks for posting this!

Hello dear Christian! You choose a great watch to open the thread as an example of what a "Queen Safe" can mean to a watch aficionado. This is a most interesting

 By: Subexplorer : September 13th, 2019-05:20
... timepiece with a very unusual design which brings you much pleasure owning even if you actually never wear it. And this is enough motive to keep it in your collection! Will come back later with some pictures of a few Safe Queens from my own watch box....

My kingdom for a safe queen

 By: psfparis : September 13th, 2019-05:32
My queen outside its kingdom To be honest it is too much money on the wrist. I commute everyday and don’t want to over expose it... sad world ...

Now, that is one beautiful watch!

 By: ChristianDK : September 13th, 2019-06:14
I agree the world is becoming dangerous to watch collectors, sadly. The hobby has become more mainstream and with that much more attention on your wrist from criminals.

Agree my friend! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : September 13th, 2019-08:47

Superb 👌....

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 13th, 2019-07:50

I absolutely love your watch Abel...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-02:13
Superb and I’m sure Mr Connery would approve 😉

This is a most beautiful timepiece Psfparis! It happens the same with my own 6238: value has increased so much lately that the fear to have it robbed or damaged makes me use it less...

 By: Subexplorer : September 13th, 2019-08:47
... and less, but the pleasure to have it on my wrist is so high! Agree that we live in a sad world! Hagwe! Abel

Agree my friend!

 By: Subexplorer : September 13th, 2019-20:03
Real shame!

 By: Mike H : September 13th, 2019-13:55
That seconc pic is absolutely stunning !!! Huge congrats ! You are right you must be careful and make sure you wear it in safe conditions

True story as relayed by my pal Scott, who posts here . . .

 By: Dr No : September 13th, 2019-19:52
. . . occasionally under the log-in sdd7820: Scott was shepherding a group of new employees at a company function when he noticed a young lady wearing what appeared to be a Paul Newman. Figuring it had to be fake, he angled for a closer look. Sure enough,...

Thanks you my friend! My all-time favorite reference.

Great theme my friend .

 By: Watchonthewrists : September 13th, 2019-08:08

Hello dear Christian! I already told about my concept of what...

 By: Subexplorer : September 13th, 2019-09:54
... a Safe Queen means so I will show here two watches I almost never wear because of their size but which give me a high enjoyment just to view them. As a matter of fact I don’t keep them in a safe but on my desk at home and I find a lot of pleasure view...

Well played, Abel:-)

 By: ChristianDK : September 13th, 2019-10:53

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 13th, 2019-11:01
How long have you had this one Christian ?

Thank you, my friend

 By: ChristianDK : September 13th, 2019-11:12
This one I bought new 2005. The pictures are recent, so as you can see it is like new.

almost for 15 years now. But I only wore it the first years, hoping I would come back to it. The design is actuallly super.

 By: ChristianDK : September 13th, 2019-13:28
It is just that now i dont like anything bigger that 40 mm and I prefer thin cases. Its just my preference now!

Thank you Nicolas! Agree with you. The regular Big Pilot at 46 mm is a more wearable watch. There is a larger version than the Heritage...

 By: Subexplorer : September 13th, 2019-20:11
That one is really big! I own since about four years now. Abrazos amigo mio!

Now thats a big watch 😳

 By: Watchonthewrists : September 13th, 2019-12:51
60mm ??? I didnt know about that watch . Thanks for sharing

 By: Subexplorer : September 13th, 2019-20:14

If we’re talking big ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 13th, 2019-15:03
...

That qualifies as big...

 By: Brandon Skinner : September 13th, 2019-19:30
And if I recall correctly, it is as LOUD as it is big! Super cool one you have there, Cpt.

It’s incredibly LOUD...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-02:17
and it’s got a big personality, I can’t help loving this watch for what it is.

+1 [nt]

 By: ChristianDK : September 22nd, 2019-12:10

It’s only 57.5mm 😉 [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-02:09

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-03:14

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-04:43

Wonderful pieces in your collection Abel...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-02:22
I completely agree with what you said about giving your great pleasure just looking and winding them. It’s the same for me with the Zenith D’Aéronef Type 20.

Its a good point. Some pieces Can be enjoyed evening not on the wrist.

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-05:35
“Safe queen” often has a negative connotation, because watches are meant to be enjoyed on your arm. I basically agree with this point - but I’ve also learned that there are exceptions and that is ok as well - as long as they are enjoyed

Totaly agree dear Captain! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : September 14th, 2019-05:47

Sometimes just the ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-05:54
Experience of winding the movement with the watch in your hand is an enjoyable experience

Pure pleasure 🥂 [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-06:20

Absolutely agree dear Christian. There is a negative connotation in the term "Safe Queen" and also it is a good accepted principle to have in our watch box only those timepieces we...

 By: Subexplorer : September 14th, 2019-05:47
... actualy wear. This is good as a general principle, but it leaves out to those who are die hard collectors who gather a large collection. Then it is very difficult to rotate every one. Also there is always a watch we treasure so much for sentimental re...

Very true, Dear Abel, that this fundamental approach doesn’t work for die hard collectors

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-06:06
I saw in an interview with John Goldberger that many, many of his pieces he would never wear. This point also helped me to be more clear about my own approach to my passion. I am not a collector in the true sense, but more of a watch enthusiast. Generally...

Thank you dear Captain!! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : September 15th, 2019-07:38

 By: Subexplorer : September 14th, 2019-06:04
... very special pieces, or others which I keep for sentimental reasons. Your Zenith D´Aeronet surely deserves a post showing it in all its glory, and of course wearing it from time to time. Hagwe! Abel

Your wish is my command dear friend...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-06:19

Submariner 6205

 By: Franksc7 : September 13th, 2019-10:00
The only “safe queen” I have ever owned. A one owner (my father) Rolex Submariner 6205 bought new in 1954 for less than $100. The current value coupled with the Radium Dial relegated it to a lonely life in my safe so I recently let it go to an avid collec...

My PSM perpetual

 By: toddg : September 13th, 2019-12:15
I don't know why it doesn't get much wrist time because i love it. ...

Great early PSM Todd!

 By: Tim Jackson : September 13th, 2019-12:45

Safe Queens...

 By: Tim Jackson : September 13th, 2019-13:45
Up first is my paternal grandfather's watch from 1946. A Bernex purchased to celebrate the end of WWII. Cased in an English 9K YG case, it is quite delicate being a terribly thin gauge, hence a "Queen" plus the sentimental aspect! The second offering is a...

Superb cushion case that Bernex!

 By: Mike H : September 13th, 2019-14:48
When I think of all the ones thinking that Panerai invented the cushion case… ROFL That Bernex is definitely a beauty with a wonderful story behind, wear it in the best of health ...

Oh Nico, you bad man😜

 By: Tim Jackson : September 14th, 2019-07:17
Not much is new in the watch world as an older wiser friend once said. Cheers!

🤣😂🤣 [nt]

 By: Mike H : September 14th, 2019-11:17

LOL ;-) indeed [nt]

 By: ChristianDK : September 17th, 2019-23:33

Thanks Mike! The Bernex is really on the small side.

 By: Tim Jackson : September 14th, 2019-07:15
But familial bonds are strong! Cheers, Tim

Small is beautiful 😉

 By: Mike H : September 14th, 2019-11:19
And the story behind it makes it even nicer 😉

Two interesting pieces Tim.

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 13th, 2019-15:08
Your grandfathers watch is very personal and special watch.

Yes, thrilled to have it.

Kind words. Christian, thanks! [nt]

Easily my safe queen is this Leonidas

 By: Brandon Skinner : September 13th, 2019-16:05

Stunning Stowa

Yes, very nice! [nt]

 By: amanico : September 14th, 2019-14:59

Oh, wow. Didn’t know the Leonidas

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-03:18
I seems this theme works in the way that we are seeing some exotic stuff (it was my hope) Can you please tell us more about it? 🤗

It's hard to explain and can never quite do so. myself

 By: Brandon Skinner : September 14th, 2019-08:11
So here is a link with some awesome vintage photos in it as well. It should translate from Italian to English for you www.historicacollectibles.com

 By: Subexplorer : September 14th, 2019-06:10
... well done! I see you also enjoy your superb WW2 Pilot watch same way I do with my Panerai Big Egiziano: as a table clock! That´s great! No need to wear these giants to enjoy owning them! Hagwe! Abel

How about the never been in a safe queen!

 By: timerider : September 13th, 2019-18:36
This new piece just arrived today! Use your zoom to figure out the maker. It is light as a feather and has a concave back to make it even more comfortable. More pictures to follow if you are interested. Best, Tim ...

Had to look up their website, Tim - not much info . . .

 By: Dr No : September 13th, 2019-20:34
. . . to be gleaned there. What can you tell us about Visitor? Curiously, Art

Yes, please let us know 🤗 [nt]

I am in the middle of a heat wave with parents that need help this weekend. I will do a proper write up soon with more pictures and watch data. I know I was off topic but you know the excitement of a new watch!! Best, Tim ...

no problem. congratulations!! [nt]

What a beauty you have there, Christian.

 By: Brandon Skinner : September 13th, 2019-19:33
Something totally unique to what’s being offered today by the brands. Amazing condition and look. It’s too bad you can’t find the time to wear it, but that’s only because of all the other incredible pieces in the stable. Great theme this week, thank you! ...

Thank you so much for your kind words, my friend.

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-03:23
Yes IWC was such an interesting rand once. I once read that the collaboration with Porsche Design became a problem for them in the way that it became too popular. This one is absolutely mint. I have the full set and I don’t believe the previous owner wore...

Not only is that an amazing story

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-03:25
It is just a damn good looking piece. Is it because you worry something could happen to it that it spends so much safe time, Art? Thank you for playing.

My preference for manual winds is one reason, Christian . . .

 By: Dr No : September 14th, 2019-08:13
. . . but really, I'm not sure why it tends to stay locked away. Yes, it is precious in a sense no other in my collection can match, but there are others - Tiffany, for example - that also tend to hibernate for longer periods than others. Speaking of Tiff...

We used to have a watch maker in my town who was obsessed with Omega. I believe he had a similar piece (sans Tiffany) for sale for a looomg time. I am regularly kicking myself for passing on it.

Superb example of Safe Queen you share here dear Art!! The watch is beautiful and knowing its past history and the story you told us it is easy to understand...

What a lineup. You are of course forgiven for wearing all your watches - haha. Qeeens they all are, for sure. I believe you forgot to include the KV. The last piece I am assuming lives in a safe or do you wear that also. That would be cool! Next time I’m ...

Glad you like them Christian...

 By: Mike H : September 14th, 2019-11:31
...and yes for sure we have to meet. I'll be happy to share my Queens with you for a moment To answer your question yes I do wear my pocket watches and not only this one even if less than the wrist watches of course . You might be interested about a post ...

Thank you so much, Mike .-)

Love the pocket watch😍

Thanks for your kind words

 By: Mike H : September 14th, 2019-11:32
As for the pocket watch, I love it too. Some more infos about it here… www.watchprosite.com

No safe queens for me...

 By: S F : September 14th, 2019-02:21
I wear all my watches and the main reason of not wearing them often is plain ---laziness..... I will have 2-3 pieces in my drawer so the tendency is to put on that same 2-3 until I do the next rotation which can be quite a while. And some will not get int...

:)))))))) [nt]

But never forgotten... ...

Thank you Christian....

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-05:29
It’s dark at the back of that safe and you never know what you might find 🦇

That Zenith ... spectacular! [nt]

By: COUNT DE MONET : September 14th, 2019-11:54

Thank you dear Count ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 14th, 2019-13:26
Hope you are having a great weekend.

Sweet. But a whole year

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-04:58
It must have it’s run coming up soon or ...?

Perfect time only! [nt]

By: COUNT DE MONET : September 14th, 2019-11:54

Ashamed to say I more than a few potential entries.

 By: Jay (Eire) : September 14th, 2019-06:54
For several reasons some watches have always been safe queens and others have become so. The latter usually due to changes in value (it is what it is). Here’s one the fits the former, it’s just never been worn, by anyone. And I just can’t bring myself to ...

What a great looking watch, Jay!!

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-07:31
Especially the dial, I like. Do you know what year this is from?

1965 if I remember correctly.

 By: Jay (Eire) : September 14th, 2019-10:44
It is one of the earlier ones, but not the original run which I think had the same dial, same small black second hour hand BUT a different caseback. The first run, which was 1964 had the Olympic flame on the caseback, initially etched and then later stamp...

That is a good idea. just wear it carefully.

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-12:48
Perhaps a simple calf strap could look nice?

+1 a nice plain calf strap is an excellent idea

 By: Mike H : September 14th, 2019-13:34
I would go for a beige or light brown color I think it would match perfectly… I wish I could see it in the metal… maybe one day it looks really cool ...

Maybe ostrich?

 By: cazalea : September 14th, 2019-22:05
Looks good here ... Cazalea ...

I really just stumbled upon this one. Always searching for vintage GS and often those little shops in the back alleys carrying cheap old GS also...

 By: Jay (Eire) : September 14th, 2019-17:26
....often have other cheap old Seikos. The “cheap” may not be so true any more as many of these vintage GS and Seiko have doubled or tripled in price in the last several years.

Hello Jay! Thank you for sharing this Queen! I understand very well your feelings! It happens with me specially with a gold Omega Constellation C which has never been worn...

 By: Subexplorer : September 14th, 2019-17:03
... and each time I put it on my wrist to enjoy it I hesitate and take it off and put inside its case again. But how nice is to know we own them and to view and admire it from time to time! Hagwe my friend! Abel.

Unfortunately quite a few for me...

 By: Dave G : September 14th, 2019-08:33
Mostly a function of too many watches and living in several countries... A few: ...

what an incredible lineup, Dave

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-09:02
I cant believe you are not wearing these treasures!!! These would make a top collection on their own.

Well...

 By: Dave G : September 14th, 2019-09:11
I have quite a few others. I never keep anything in the 'plastic' so to speak but things end up in the Bank for too long some times due to living in a few different countries on opposite sides of the planet. Some like the 5098P I thought I would like but ...

I always found it very elegant and I like the case shape and dial a lot

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-10:44
Do you think that it is because it is too "retro"/ elegant?. I thought about this one several times but there is also perhaps too elegant like it would go better with a tux than my much more casual style?!

Another attempt to post Submariner 6205 pictures

 By: Franksc7 : September 14th, 2019-09:48
Not sure why I’m having difficulty posting pictures of my 1954 Submariner 6205 “safe queen” but here goes another attempt... ...

Fantastic, Frank!!!

 By: ChristianDK : September 14th, 2019-10:47
You found some pictures of it. Im not a Rolex expert but this is just stunning. great entry!!!

Superb example!!! [nt]

 By: Mike H : September 14th, 2019-11:41

Wooooooow! What a beauty! [nt]

 By: amanico : September 14th, 2019-14:47

I like everything about this watch except wearing it

 By: cazalea : September 14th, 2019-21:41
Dial, hands, cool complication, overall look ... If it was a pocket watch it would be perfect, but as a wristwatch ... Ok, well it’s too heavy, and setting date with a pusher or toothpick is a bit retro, and I might have overpaid (and/or prices are soft)....

Great quality 👌 [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 15th, 2019-03:24

It’s a good looking piece

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-06:17
I’m surprised you said that it is too heavy as it looks like it fits your wrist well. It’s looks like a nice movement.

Lots of gold and heavy movement

 By: cazalea : September 15th, 2019-08:09
I did a measurement on the weight of these three gold watches Halter=82g GO Panorama Date Moon=112g GO Chronometer=169g It’s more than double the weight of the Vianney Halter Classic! Mike ...

Ok , yes - that is a heavy weight

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-08:15
I’m jealous about your VH. I’ve considered it many times. My fear was if it would get enough wrist time. Also if it would be fragile with those sharp edges so it would only be for very special occasions. What is your experience with it as an owner?

Safe Princess

 By: cazalea : September 15th, 2019-08:29
Only comes out on special occasions or around the house, I’m afraid. But it hasn’t got many scars, thankfully. Vianney said a polish back to new condition takes almost an entire week, so just wear it. ...

I was afraid of that

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-08:46
It is a stunning watch though!

THat´s a most beautiful watch Mike!! Both the dial and movment side are fantastic! That´s the madness of our passion for watches. Even as much as we love and like some pieces...

 By: Subexplorer : September 15th, 2019-07:55
... by some reason they remain in the safe. It looks like it happens to most of us! Hagwe! Abel

That’s a truly interesting one, ChristianDK 👍🏻

 By: KMII : September 14th, 2019-22:27
Let me add some of mine. The Seiko 2220-0630. A Playboy branded watch but having a hand wound hi-beat movement and palladium case - from 1978, IIRC. My Breitling Aerospace. A graduation present, which I love most dearly but wear very rarely nowadays. A Po...

It’s certainly got a certain charm...

 By: KMII : September 17th, 2019-21:20
But even though it is 36mm, the thick bezel and lugless design make it wear really small 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, right, but still, such a charm and a character.

No message body

True, dear Nico. True [nt]

 By: ChristianDK : September 17th, 2019-23:41

You have some great pieces, Kristjan

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-01:10
Firstly Thank you so much for taking the job as Judge this weekend. Something about that Playboy piece I quite like. It’s v quite dandy in a fun way. The accutron is something I’ve considered many times because it is fun and original- my only concern was ...

Fully agreed with you on the Porsche...

 By: KMII : September 17th, 2019-21:23
The combination resulted in a very specific, very Germanic design language on the one hand and some spectacular technology on the other. The divers you mention - so thin for the water resistance, that many watch manufacturers nowadays would do well to emu...

Well, I’m a sucker for a bit of dandy swag LOL

 By: ChristianDK : September 17th, 2019-21:28
I can’t think of the number of times I’ve wanted to pick up one of the Porsche divers. I think they have potential to become classics down the road. Certainly, they are very cool and wearable?

Absolutely!

 By: KMII : September 28th, 2019-08:53
I hope someone will make divers like these again in the future 👍🏻

That’s an interesting lineup KMII...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 15th, 2019-03:22
The “Playboy” brings a smile every time I see it and the Bulova Accutron II is a fascinating piece. Hope you are having a great weekend.

The weekend was, playful 😉

 By: KMII : September 17th, 2019-21:24
Three play dates on one weekend makes daddy a relatively tired man 😉

The Seiko Playboy is quite beautiful [nt]

 By: Brandon Skinner : September 15th, 2019-07:47

That they do, Abel 👍🏻

 By: KMII : September 17th, 2019-21:25

Here is my safequeen

My de Bethune ...

What a treasure, Brauner

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-02:44
How could this possibly live in a safe.

I dont know why.

 By: brauner : September 15th, 2019-04:21
Many other watches, fear scratches, ...

You can wear it..

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-06:10
In bed LOL 😝 It is a beautiful piece and I really admire DB.

It looks as strong as a safe !...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 15th, 2019-03:19
Superb quality and design 👌

And light too

 By: brauner : September 15th, 2019-04:18
Made of titanium. I like the polished Titanium.

I like that 👍 [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 15th, 2019-04:34

This ones stays 99,5% of the time in the safe

 By: FRAMII : September 15th, 2019-04:16
This one 100% as its for my daughter and she’s only 7 ; ...

Sorry the last picture was missing

 By: FRAMII : September 15th, 2019-04:17

What!!? - you don’t that Patek?

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-06:19
Someone arrest this man! LOL 😆 haha

Really nice idea to buy and put away a piece for your kid

 By: ChristianDK : September 22nd, 2019-08:24
I think I will take some inspiration from you 🤗

The only watch I have that I consider to be a safe “queen” is this Longines from 1952

 By: descartes1 : September 15th, 2019-04:47
It was given by my mother to my father in their engagement- April 5, 1952. You can still read the inscription on the back but I’ve blurred the names in the photo for privacy. If only it were a little larger it might not be a safe queen. 😉 ...

I wonder if ...

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-06:30
That was what Liberace was also thinking 🤔 LOL 😂

It’s a good looking piece, my friend

 By: ChristianDK : September 15th, 2019-06:22
Perhaps if you found a really nice strap. I did that with my grandfathers gold omega. I wear it on special occasions like the day I got married and sometimes around the house.
