I submit my two best “funky” watches from the sixties for consideration in this week’s Wristscan exhibition. I couldn’t decide on just one so here you have my two favorites:
1) An Omega Memomatic dating to 1969. Very funky (and chunky) watch that had a precise alarm mechanism that used the watch’s movement power source to function and could be set to the minute. A very fun watch with a strong “wrist presence”
2) A Bulova Accutron Astronaut 214 tuning fork electronic watch dating to 1967. This “hummer” has a 14k gold bezel with it’s original gold plated “bullet Bracelet” and a fabulous black dial with applied hour markers and an extra special feature with the famous Accutron tuning fork seconds hand. For those not familiar with the Accutron 214 “tuning fork” electronic movement that was first introduced in 1961 it is a great story and a worthy occupant in every serious watch collection IMHO.
Hope you enjoy the images.
