Here's My Contribution- Omega 176.007
Oct 07, 2017,10:24 AM
I am a very big fan of Omega sport watches from the early 70's. They really bring me back to a period of my childhood. There are so many cool iterations having cool shapes with outstanding colors, such as the soccer timer, yacht racing and this one. The colors, the wearability and the quality all come together to make these pieces special IMO. Here's what I love about this particular reference, the 176.007 Seamaster.
*. The blue dial just absolutely pops, especially as contrasted against the white tachymeter scale and other colorful bits on the dial.
* The minute totalizer on this particular watch has gone tropical...a beautiful carmelized tropical, actually.
* The orange "airplane" hand which tracks the elapsed minutes on the chronometer is so cool. (It "flies" around the dial).
* There's a lot going on here complications wise-- Chrono, date, and 24 hour/day-night register.
* Omega details such as the signed crown, the omega symbol in the center of the crystal and the hippocampus on the case back.
* The beautiful and robust 1040 movement (this is Omega's first automatic chronograph, so some historical importance)
* The silky smooth 1171 bracelet.
I do think these watches are under appreciated and I am somewhat surprised these are not more collectible, or at least expensive. Nevertheless, they are fun to collect.
Here are some detail photos for your enjoyment. Thanks for looking.
