No shortage of fascinating watches this week! . . .

Aug 29, 2022,03:17 AM

. . . most, but probably not all, of you know that Watch of the Week is assessed not on the technical quality or composition of the image, but as a result of how intriguing the watch is to a judge.  In other words, an ordinary photo is just as liable to come out on top . . . it's content, and not appearance, that matters.

Let's start with honorable mentions.  There were Omega favorites aplenty, starting with Abel's Moonshine . . .

. . . and GMT, plus . . .

. . . R G's titanium Ploprof, a personal favorite.

jml also shared a watch that resonates with yours truly.  His NOMOS is as high a value in modern watchmaking as there can possibly be.

K shared not one but three intriguing watches . . .

. . . particularly his Laine, a rare indie that I'm finding increasing favor with.

What more can be said about Cap's green machine?

Or R G's JLC?

Or Filip's, for that matter?

Now, this . . .

. . . was highly intriguing.  Never seen before by these eyes, and quite arresting.  Pleasantly surprised it was offered by Cap . . . had to rub my eyes twice to confirm it was his!

Jerome as well as Abel shared the Blancpain enhanced by a unique indicator.  What most of you don't know is that I have an affinity for vintage Fifty Fathoms . . .

. . . even though I rarely comment about them.

How could a Freak make an appearance on Wrist Scan . . .

. . . and not be a contender for WotW?  Nicely done, SF.

Cookies might've assumed I'd missed his tantalum Seamaster.  Not so; it was his PSM that tickled my interest.

There's nothing more alluring than a pink gold dress watch, and VC has this field well covered.  Another score for Jerome.

I'm at a loss for words about Timeout's Kari.  'Exquisite' isn't evocative enough.

Same goes for Tim's Hentschel.  I've had the privilege of seeing his (and Bill's) in the metal.  What can I say other than, "Damn!  Should've bought AAPL twenty years ago!  Then I wouldn't have to struggle making choices."

Oh, Ruffian.

🥰

And there the tale might end.  Not so.  Wachnut's Longines Hour Angle . . .

. . . represents the best of both worlds, modern and vintage, in a historically relevant homage.  Well done, sir, and congrats on top honors for WotW.  And please don't wait fourteen years to visit again.

Hope to see you all this coming Friday for the next session of Wrist Scan!

Dear friends: Our event is closed now. Thanks a lot to all participants who had answered our challenge of this weekend. I have enjoyed so much viewing and reading the interesting comments and shots received. I wish everyone had a pleasant weekend and have...

I’ll start off with the Best Wrist Shot category

 By: andrea~ : August 28th, 2022-18:21
Brandon Skinner gets the third place spot, as he seems to be doing a great job passing his passion on to the next generation! I didn’t rank it higher only because of the lack of books in the shot. Tied for second place sit Bobbe and Subexplorer, with both...

forgive the typo

I meant to write "that" instead of "what" in the last paragraph

thanks!

…. we all appreciate your taking on this task for the two categories this week. The book (A Man and his Watch) fell open to this page - couldn’t have hoped for a better quote!

My pleasure 😊

Best Static Shot

 By: andrea~ : August 28th, 2022-18:29
Now it gets tough, as the shots submitted were plentiful and I wanted to include so many of them… The competition was fierce and I nominated the photos that caught my eye the most in terms of both the composition and the concept behind them. I’ll start wi...

Congrats to all winners 👍

Thank you Andrea for your kind offering of judging both categories today.

Usually we receive much more wrist shots than statics. This weekend it was just the opposite and all the entries were of high quality making so difficult to choose just a few as winners. I understand your feelings about being unable to include much more e...

Thank you for the kind words!

Fantastic Veredict dear Art! Thank you so much for helping with judging this weekend. As usual your veredicts are so thoroughly commented and a delight to read. Big congrats to winner Wachnut...

... and to all other participants mentioned in your veredict. As you well say, we received many shots of watches deserving the WOTW title and that makes a very tough job to choose just one winner. Thank you so much to all participants for their awesome en...

Great week

Love the photos this week. The theme is a wonderful blend of manual reading (not e-reading) and mechanical pieces. Perfect combo!

Thanks all
