Those to oldies belonged to my grandfather, and were passed to me by my father. He never wore them, always his Omega Seamaster.

Father's Day Wrist Scan starts . . .

 By: Dr No : June 17th, 2022-09:59
. . . now! Let's see the watches our Dads gifted to us, and since it's better to give than receive, the watch in our collection we'd give to Dad. Dad bought this Seiko Sea Lion . . . . . . in January '66 and wore it daily until '04 when he handed it over....

Passed down from my father and his father and his father and his father and...

This English fusée pocketwatch dates to the early half of the 1800s and has been passed down in my family. It's not much but it carries a lot for me. I recently had it serviced! ...

Yes, thanks for reminding me of the other side of the question!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : June 17th, 2022-15:49
My father's a doctor with very understated tastes. He mentioned this Breguet classique was to his taste and it would be the one I'd give him. ...

Thank you, Abel!

Have a nice Father's Day!

My big pleasure Spangles!!

A wonderful piece for sure 👌🏻

 By: KMII : June 19th, 2022-14:48
And it seems a similar sense of taste tins in the family 😉👍🏻

😉😸 Thanks!

Thoughtful theme; hagwe and happy father’s day to all 🍻

The watch he bought when he first made something of his life. 1960 gold Omega automatic, tv dial, date. He wore it for nearly 50 years. I remember the day he took it off his wrist and handed it to me with a quiet smile. We knew he didn’t have much time le...

I have a feeling you'll be done with it . . .

 By: Dr No : June 17th, 2022-15:09
. . . much sooner than he expects.

Well, I suppose the worst could happen, too, but my hunch still is . . .

 By: Dr No : June 18th, 2022-18:07
. . . you'll let him enjoy it sooner rather than later. 'Tis better to give than retain, or so they say. 😌

We may have to wait until he’s in his early to mid 30s to be ready to care for a machine of this fragility and value (which is when I was ready)

 By: Stoikos : June 19th, 2022-15:09
And by then I will be in my 70s…. But I will certainly get him or hand over an attractive entry level luxury watch for his young adulthood, if he does well in school and wants one. I’m not yet sure of how to go about this…. 🍻

And to you, my friend!

 By: Stoikos : June 18th, 2022-17:56

Big thanks dear Stoikos!

Superb Omega !.. Great story.. Lovely Reverso !

.. What pleasure lies in the remembrances & stories connected ! Keep enjoying these in the Best of your health ! Cheers !! 🙂

Such a sad thing that the Omega was stolen…

 By: KMII : June 19th, 2022-14:50
But a great story indeed and I am sure your choices would have been the right ones 👌🏻👍🏻

Hello dear Art! Great Theme and a great opening post both moving and interesting to read the stories behind these beautiful watches.

 By: Subexplorer : June 17th, 2022-21:14
My Dad loved watches but he owned only two. He was specially fond of Rolex brand and he instilled me that love for the brand since I was a lad. I remember being with him in February 1966 when he bought his first Rolex, a Datejust at an AD in Miami, Fl. Ca...

This was his daily wearer for I’m guessing 20-something years. The watch eventually broke and was replaced by a gold tone Seiko S2 quartz. The watch was languishing at my dad’s house when we spotted it while going through some papers and other stuff. Dad ...

Fortunately movement parts for Ω cal 302 are still widely available . . .

 By: Dr No : June 18th, 2022-18:34

Wow, that’s good to know, and I’m glad you were able to find and replace the part.

 By: RabidManatee : June 19th, 2022-00:17
I initially had the watch brought to running order by RGM in Pennsylvania. I think they did a great job — the dial was cleaned up just a bit and the watch ran and still runs about +5 secs a day. Thanks for commenting.

Very interesting dear Abel …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 18th, 2022-09:32
Especially the Spanish pocket watch from your great grandfather.

Moving stories & very well chosen pics, my friend !

I specifically liked that first DateJust photo with this yellow tinted dial - quite eclectic but a special joy for you, I trust ! - And that amazing pocket-watch of your Grand-Pa also is a truly compelling piece, beauty & good remembrances, what more can ...

Thank you so much for your kind comments on every one of my choices dear friend HS. Yes, the old pocket watch is a cherished heirloom which I intend to pass to my family... some day.

 By: Subexplorer : June 18th, 2022-14:52
I choose the GMT as a hypothetical present to Dad as he was a real fan of Rolex, and being a favorite of mine presently I imagined he would enjoy it so much too. Have a nice weekend and Father´s Day my dear friend. Cheers! Abel

The Romans Rolex you gave your Dad is exactly like the Datejust my cousin Vic received . . .

 By: Dr No : June 18th, 2022-18:13
. . . from his brother after graduating from college, except his has a white dial. After Vic married, his wife Doreen 'appropriated' the Datejust so she wears it most of the time now. A family that shares Rolexes together stays together, or so they say.

Ha ha ha!! Agree about the saying : "A family that shares Rolexes together..." Lol! This type of dial with Roman numbers is known today among collectors as "Buckley dials"...

Wow! Beautiful example!! Thanks a lot for sharing!!

Here another Buckley in my collection. This time a Oyster Quartz Datejust. Buckley dials are those with painted Roman numerals not applied with minutes tracks. I feel they are very elegant and classic. Cheers! Abel ...

I am sure your father would be a super happy recipient!

 By: KMII : June 19th, 2022-15:43
And he clearly passed on his passion to you 😊👍🏻

Thank you so much dear KM! He was not a watch collector but…

 By: Subexplorer : June 19th, 2022-16:37
… he was a passionate Rolex fan who talked me about the brand since I was a lad. Yes he passed me that feeling to me no doubt! He not only talked about the brand but also presented my Mom, my sister and me Rolex watches for our birthdays. Thank you again ...

If I could I would give my father my Cartier Tortue

This is a very personal topic you have chosen this week , Dr No. My dad gave me this pocket watch too soon. I also kept his desk and his cigar humidor. As a child I could tell whether it was Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta’s Churchill’s or Cohiba’s Lanceros ...

Interesting post dear friend HS. You Dad´s Omega is plain but charming, but more important are the feelings and remembrances it brings to you when you view or wear it.

Your De Ville Omega chrono is lovely and classic. I´m sure it´s a pleasure to wear. Great choice for your hypothetical present to your Dad. He surely would appreciate it so much. Have a nice weekend dear friend. Cheers! Abel

Thx so much, dear Abel for your kind sentiment !
