One you almost don’t find.... tantalum

Great weight, fantastic colour

But most watchmakers hate it because it’s so hard.

The most famous is without doubt the Journe CB
But that’s about it. I know hublot and panerai made some and AP uses it sometimes in combination with steel or gold.

But you won’t find many tantalum watches

The theme for the WS of the weekend of the 21st of May will be ‘Favorite metal’

First of all sorry for the delayed announcement. Being a single dad temporarily this week has thrown the schedules somewhat overboard. The topic this weekend will be favorite metal(s). Of course I by no means want to limit the ingenuity of entries, so if ...

Looking forward to seeing your shots of them soon…

Omega had a Titanium-tantalum-Rosegold Seamaster too (one from the 1990's, one from 2-3y ago) - my brother-in-law has one. A most curious watch!

Before I think of a more realistic answer, let me give you the first one that came to mind: Titanium! :-) A while ago, I wrote this thread on what appears to be the *entire* Patek production in Titanium in its 182-year history....

Amazingly, a total of only 12 (!) wristwatches have been produced, all of course unique pieces! Most of them, I have reasons to believe, currently belong to the same private collection. A dream, of course, to own even one of them! Patek Philippe - The inc...

Excellent theme ...

The choice of metal can change a watch significantly and importantly how we perceive them. Very interesting theme KM !

Great theme!

. . . should do the trick. Seiko should make a diver out of DU. Ballast, if nothing else.

Have you ever gazed into a spent fuel pool? Mesmerizing. These rods all neatly stacked. 18 - 24 feet of water. Dead calm. Not a ripple. You wonder what the water temperature might be.

You just keep staring. Looking down. It’s well lit. You start touching you hard hat to make sure it is secure and won’t fall in. You do the same with your dosimeter on your coat and any buttons. Once that nervous passes, you go back to looking into the po...

Chrome

Chrome is my favorite finish. I like the mirror effect of it. Zirkonium and white gold are great. An undiscovered metal, bronze. I want to experience it.

Great theme dear friend KM! Let’s have a look to both...

Traditional materials as well as the new ones the industry has been adopting in the last years! Look forward to your opening post! Cheers! Abel
