Not an exotic watch,

but relatively accessible, depending on the iteration---that piqued my interest and led to its acquisition after about thirty odd years.
I 've never been a great fan of Rolex, but noticed the 1016 explorer on multiple advertisements in the seventies that attracted me.However, being a student then,it was fiscally out of my range, although the interest never waned.
Over the years,it flitted within reach, both the 1016 and 114270, but the trigger was never pulled, although i was offered a 1016 by a retailer in Bond Street in the 2000s at what i would say was a reasonable price.Somehow,to my regret,i didn't get it,being wary of the vintage minefield .
Fast forward to 2009,when recovering a day after successful spinal surgery,i came across a post for 114270 on collector's corner on this site, and contacted the seller.
To my surprise,he was willing to visit me in the hospital with the 114270,and we negotiated a sale in my hospital room with me recuperating on the bed.
That purchase to celebrate the successful outcome of the surgery remains one of my most interesting buys..
The 1016 still remains to be hunted
As i said, nothing exotic but still very much enjoyed.
