Thanks Count for hosting our wristscan this weekend!
Here are some of my unexpected watch purchases
Cheers
Robin
Piaget Polo green LE 500. I thought it was sold out as it launched some years ago but received an unexpected call this year that my allocation has come. Apparently a collector backed off from his order due to the delivery delays so I was lucky !
Related to the Green Polo, I also didn't expect I would like green dial watches before this year. I fell in love with the green Reverso Tribute Small Seconds when it was launched. Now I'm a fan of green dials just as I am on blue dials.
I hope all of my fellow Purists have got a good start into their weekend and are ready to indulge in some great watches here on WristScan. The theme today is all about pieces that you thought you would never be able to get, you would never be offered, or ...
Your theme has got me reflecting yesterday about the philosophical nature of collecting. 2 pieces were unexpected for me. Let’s start with the good news. Good news: A former moderator here told me he spent north of 20k for a similar piece when it was rele...
and philosophical indeed: you winn some, you loose some. But in this instance it is actually more like: you can only winn! Thank you for your entries, Cookies.
Hope you are having a great weekend. Yes indeed, in both cases I adore the pieces, so they are keepers. Not sure what my next piece will be. Maybe a standard FF as I’ve been thinking about it so much. Will wait it out for the new releases first before pla...
... and can well understand that. Two superb pieces indeed. I also love the Blancpain FF in their many variants offered presently. It´s a good move to wait for the new releases as we can always be surprised with a new option. Look forward to know which wi...
I decided to take the plunge and use the BB58 in the pool (although chemically, silver can show some erosion with chlorine). It quickly showed a yellowish tint to the metal. That’s the plus and minus of silver. ...

Because it slides so neatly up a shirt cuff and due to the Frodsham team's goal of making it very reliable (you may recall one prototype was worn on daily bike commutes, the other worn while mowing the lawn, etc), I've discretely worn it quite a bit.
here are some of my unexpected acquisitions... firstly, the hulk... it was definitely a pleasant surprise when the AD called me to say they have one waiting for me. and it happened a few months before it was discontinued this Breguet La Tradition was anot...
SteveG cost me a lot of time perusing his photo site, and a lot of money chasing watches he had found BEFORE they became popular. I fell in love with this GS SBGW003 and hunted for 2 years. One finally popped up in Singapore and a young fella on this site...
The Daytona 116515LN with discontinued dial. I was very lucky to have the chance to buy this below list 4 years ago shortly before the market got excited by gold Daytonas on the oysterflex strap. I bought this quirky late 90s Speedy “Japan Racing” MK40 2 ...
To me, it was the unattainable watch because previously. I was told in 2017, I need to spend almost 7 figures in order to get my name on the application, probably just to scare me away. Fast forward 3 years, after knowing an awesome sales, who helped to p...
That is why I never push them for my list. This WT is one that was already on my “forget about it” list so I was super excited when it came. Congrats to you too on the historical Astronaut Speedmaster. HAGWE as well Sir.
… stunning timepieces during the weekend. You have already set the bar very high with your unexpected catches but I guess every collector has at least one watch which he thought would never be able to get for his collection. In my personal case I have to ...
Naturally I would think a collector of your caliber can get any watch he likes, but now I am curious to see that watch ... Have a great Friday night, dearest Abel.
To me the most unexpected watch is my pam1080… it was designed by 4 German Paneristis and realized with the support of a Swiss local dealer - Embassy . They were able to convince the new CEO from Panerai to produce this watch with a limitation of 60 piece...
Comes to my mind, if you are rightfully saying "it's more than just a watch". Very touching story of a group of dedicated Paneristi and good to hear that a major brand is listening to their followers. Outstanding watch! 👏👏👏
And almost everyone who was lucky to get one will never give it away. They will give it to there kids. Isn’t it that what your theme is all about ? If u were lucky to get this one dream Watch u should never let it go again …
One of them I have already shared the previous week: a brand new Rolex GMT Pepsi Ceramic Bezel. It is a watch I deeply wished to own and that has been haunting my soul since it was announced in 2018. I filled an order for one on a local AD since day one b...
I knew you have got the Pepsi, but the Tributes to Austronauts is beyond this world! How do they feel, if you compare them wearing? I guess you are almost or actually done with your Speedmaster collection? Regarding your Pepsi: smart choice to go for the ...
... AD I ordered from three years ago I feel will never call me for this watch. Glad to know you also like the Jubilee choice in this particular model. My Speedmaster collection seems to be completed so far... but you know that for a collector to declare ...
OMG … the moon was shining on you the day you were offered the Tribute to Astronauts of 1969. A collectors dream. I’m also so happy that you finally managed to get the Rolex Pepsi, enjoy it in good health. Best regards Captain
It´s a collectors dream indeed. I´m also so happy to finally catching (unexpectedly too and just a few weeks after the Speedmaster) my GMT Pepsi Ceramic. I´m enjoying it so much! Thank you for your kind words and good wishes my dear friend! Abel
Without any doubt I can understand your „feeling to .. touch the moon..“ I can relate to the core of your stories and I guess they also confirm the existence of great coincidence, or better, positive fate ! Yes, sometimes our passion leads us to these gre...
... under some surprising circumstances which are treasured in our souls and hearts and come to us every time we wear them. I´m happy to know you like both watches shared and their stories behind them. It is always my pleasure to share my favorite watches...
During peak COVID scare in March of 2020 when markets were tanking and watches were actually trending down, I reached out to a few Lange dealers to see who could do the best price on a Zeitwerk. Ended up getting one far below msrp, brand new. Didn’t reall...
I didn't expect to be able to buy Air Command after a year of waiting. The dealer said it was all sold out. But suddenly a call with an offer to buy the last watch received under the quota! ...
On a sunny day early February 2021, I went to a local mega mall to pick up my new prescription eyeglasses. I passed by a new Rolex boutique that re-opened not long ago after a renovation. It used to be a jewelry store and multi-brand AD for Rolex, Breitli...
Yes, this is a wonderful "unexpected catch" story and I thank you for sharing with us. We can keep dreaming with those grails which haunt our minds... we will surely have a chance to own them when stars align... unexpectedly! Cheers! Abel
I really love your two amazing stories about acquiring the beautiful Pepsi and the very rare Speedmaster from 1969! The case back of the Speedy shows so much history! Congratulations to these exquisite and wonderful timepieces! The unexpected ways in acqu...
Hello dear Count and friends ! Firstly my sincere thanks to our dear friend The Count for hosting WristScan and giving us this thought provoking theme to contemplate. My personal collecting journey has had several “Least Expected” moments. Eyes widen and ...
Are you wearing it also to a tuxedo, Captain? Your 5980 is one of my many big regrets, because I have pased on it ... . Albeit being the best looking Nautilus variant! Looks great paired with a 300 SL 😃. Wearing a Moonshine while travelling is O-mega cool...
... finding. I also agree with you about the Explorer. A watch for any occasion and representative of the history of Rolex. A watch I specially love and yours is a great example of what a collector seeks in a vintage Explorer. I also feel that the Explore...
I completely agree with you about Ian Fleming and the Explorer. Fleming based so much of Bond on his own life. He was a Navel Intelligence Officer but much of his actual work was and still is a mystery. Have a great weekend my friend Best regards Captain
... which was something interesting to think about considering he was alive and in contact with the Director and Producers of the film. Well... that´s something we fans of Bond and watches like to speculate about. Have a nice Sunday my dear friend. Abel
. . . is storied, Count. Let's start with the one-in-a-billion Seamaster DeLuxe. Rare? Sort of, but that's not why it's the unlikeliest watch in anyone's collection. I encountered the original owner twenty five years before acquiring this uncommon Omega; ...
An outstanding watch has to come with an outstanding story. I would also drive for many, many miles if an Omega 910 is waiting for me 😃! Still, the best story behind your watch is your Argentine Bombshell ... THAT is a tale of friendship👍. Have a great ni...

Hi Fab, that is great news! Adding The School of Fish to it makes perfect sense. Lucky you! Why am I not getting calls like this ... 😫 Have great Sunday, my friend!
The special paintings are so sublime and glorious. I wish there were more people like you in this world - it will be a colourful, exuberant and more-begets-more mentality in this world.
... having your Place in the World on its dial, which makes it so special and unique. Now you are adding this new watch with its breathtaking dial showing a fish school (which I feel are the so called "grunts" which abound in coral reefs and shipwrecks). ...
The grunt, perhaps the "smallmouth grunt", totally looks like our guy now!!! This combination of horology and art is precisely what I love the most in a watch, and I feel I got again really lucky with this piece -- I'm very much looking forward to picking...

I am glad you feel the same way as i do. Piaget is such a storied maison and a serious watchmaker with great heritage. I hope more collectors take a closer look at Piaget
I am specially fond of your Piaget and the Reverso small seconds in Green really is a splendid & eclectic choice ! Thus enjoy your great pieces and wear them in the very Best of your health ! Cheers !! hs.
This watch was really unexpected. I was interested, nay obsessed, with the PP 5711/A several years ago. And the usual story at several ADs ('there's a long waiting list') greeted me. Then one morning, when I least expected it, there it was, staring at me ...
Well done my friend! I´m sure you are enjoying it so much and that you always will remember the circumstances of its catch every time you have it on your wrist. Best cordial regards, Abel
I have an unexpected acquisition of this yellow gold cloisonne dial world time. Nearly all of my collection were acquired new from AD. When my AD could allocate 5131 to me, the J and G had already discontinued. Hence I don’t expect to be able to acquire t...

One of the biggest surprise for me in the past year was the acquisition of my Tudor black bay ceramic as I was not in the market to buy a Tudor and nor was I expecting this watch to become such a weekend warrior for me! So clearly here getting that watch ...
I was too late to sign up for one back in 2017 after it was all sold out. After years of trying to find one, I was out of luck. Very few came up for sale, however, all out of my price range. On an early morning earlier this year, I got a message from a fe...
