My dad was flying in the early 50's too

The Navy kept several squadrons here -

they landed in the San Diego bay and taxied up to these giant hangars on North Island (now a historical monument)

now the hangars are filled with helicopters and the bay with boats. No flying planes.

Fantastic entry, Cpt Scarlet!

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-08:10
Zenith has a proud aviation heritage, even if they have not been stressing it so heavily as for instance Breitling has. Great piece!

Thanks KMII ..

 By: Cpt Scarlet : December 13th, 2018-08:14
It’s fairly extreme but a great watch to own.

You mean size wise? [nt]

Lufthansa is always a nice, comfy travel pal for me.

Cheers, Mr. White.

 By: Pretty Boy : December 13th, 2018-07:41
They are my first choice, if possible. Their separate First Class terminal in Frankfurt is sublime.

Absolutely.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-08:10
And, you can’t beat German efficiency. Plus, you can find some interesting stuff there: ...

But huge. Better suited to your arm.

Is it an excuse to visit the mountains again?

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-23:00
But if you do, can I came along?

Indeed. We would also need a few more characters...

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-23:48
And that giant bottle would be nice.

Any time, I'm there. [nt]

Well done, sir.

Exactly my thoughts [nt]

I had photos from me into an old B17 ....

 By: Ludi : December 13th, 2018-07:14
... flying over the french atlantic coast line at low altitude (during a 1996 air show) ... but unfortunately lost them. Anyway, I guess it could have work

...But fortunately for the rest of us.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-07:30
Those would be easy winners.

No pics, no credit, hehehe. [nt]

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-08:43

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-08:13
All of them! Anything with a Rafale on an aircraft carrier is a winner from the very beginning but it simply does not end - truly impressive!

Completely agree!! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-09:03

Incredible

 By: Uncle Chico : December 13th, 2018-08:47
The only possible way to top these would be a wrist shot on the Space Shuttle or ISS. Any astronauts out there?

very true [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-07:16
Our friend Claes has told me he would be having hard times posting this week end and requested to consider his entry of yesterday in this thread. I love this awesome shot of his not less awesome Lemania monopusher from 1963 issued to RAF. Its gorgeous asy...

Classic Lemania...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : December 13th, 2018-08:08

Rolex 1675 famously referred to as the "Concorde"

 By: Bill : December 13th, 2018-07:17
If you were flying the Concorde tomorrow you'd wear a Rolex 1675 GMT. ...

Thank you for your wonderful contribution Bill!! The GMT Concord... Sublime!! Your shot shows it in all its beauty!! It is not surprising...

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-07:27
... that every time I view your Concord it comes to my mind the classic Rolex add you show in your second shot. A true classic! Hagwe! Abel

Stunning !!! [nt]

 By: Ludi : December 13th, 2018-07:27

Stunning is the word!! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-07:32

Sooo, did you fly the Concorde then? [nt]

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-07:30

Regret to say that I never had the joy of flying the Concord!! What a shame!! I would have loved that!

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-07:34
I don´t own a Concord GMT either!! Another shame!! I would love that too!! Hagwe! Abel

Wow Bill..

 By: Cpt Scarlet : December 13th, 2018-08:05
That’s simply superb !

It’s been on my radar...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : December 13th, 2018-08:11
Sadly not scored a direct hit yet ! Can I ask how long you have owned that beauty ?

I would have to guess around 5 or 6 years.

 By: Bill : December 13th, 2018-08:18
My first yellow gold Rolex. Down hill since then.

Very funky, Bill!

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-08:22
The prices also make ones eyes water - and I am pretty sure you got them straight away back in the day, without a premium charged

Not to mention that to find a Concord GMT is not an easy task!

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-09:17
Guess not many were built with those hands! A true jewell you have!!

If I would be flying a Concorde tomorrow I would be wearing a parachute 😉

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : December 13th, 2018-08:24
What a cool watch you have there! I’m in love with it.

I was hoping for orbital traveling [nt]

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : December 13th, 2018-12:57

It can be arranged.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-23:01
I just need to find a cannon big enough to fit you.

.

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : December 13th, 2018-23:23
...

Great theme, Abel.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-07:46
I will spend this whole week in planes. So, here are some photos and watches I love. I apologize in advance to judges for the number of pics, but I am going for quantity over quality: Breguet Type XXI. Omega CK 2777. Still 2777, loves flying. IWC Mark XVI...

LOL!! ;) [nt]

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : December 13th, 2018-12:02

Yeah, you know. [nt]

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-23:02

OH boy and then some ;) [nt]

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : December 13th, 2018-23:26

Cockpit shots beat all else every time :)

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-08:23
So quantity, quality and the right seat in the plane, too (left would have been even better)!

No way on the left.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-08:44
I’m not suicidal.

I don't trust myself. [nt]

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-10:09

Not a chance.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-10:42
I trust the professionals.

It’s good fun, you know!

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-20:22
I still kick myself over having let my license lapse...

You have one?

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-23:02
I don't trust you either.

Lol Lol Lol [nt]

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : December 13th, 2018-23:27

Been years...

 By: KMII : December 15th, 2018-07:55
So I wouldn’t trust myself at this stage 😉 However landing on the Hvar airfield remains one of the real fun memories of the era. The grass was so high you could have hidden a tractor in it and it wouldn’t have been visible from the air. Good old days 😁 ...

I know that airfield.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 15th, 2018-09:02
It looks like it belongs in the heart of Africa... Man, that was a rough landing, especially for one of my friends who flew on a little plane for the first time.

Fun, right?

 By: KMII : December 15th, 2018-09:07
Vrsar is cool, too. Concrete runway but both short and with a drop directly into the sea at the end😁

Landed there to meet a few familiar faces a few years ago.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 15th, 2018-10:25
The island is similar.

Thanks, my friend.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-10:09
That was a good one.

+1!! [nt]

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : December 13th, 2018-12:02

Love your watches and love your cockpit shots ...

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-09:18
... my dear friend Zabreg!! Fantastic! I see some winners here!! Thank you! Hagwe my friend! Abel

Awesome lineup! [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : December 13th, 2018-09:51

I try.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-10:10
But, I must confess (gulp) that the Omega buckle is not period correct...

Thanks, dear Abel.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-23:04
But I am worried what blomman might do to me if he finds out...

You are in trouble... [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : December 14th, 2018-09:43

At least I admitted.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 14th, 2018-09:56
Doesn’t that give me some leniency?

Do you really want to know?

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 14th, 2018-04:11
Muahahaha.

I figured it would for you. [nt]

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 15th, 2018-04:32

International man of mystery :)

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-08:24
Almost only works with a plane these days Cool shot!

Your picture is absolutely approved and appreciated Fab!

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-09:20
I’m sure you will be flying anyway!! Have a safe trip! Cheers! Abel

Just checking :-) [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : December 13th, 2018-10:55

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : December 13th, 2018-12:03

Double Passport

 By: crown comfort : December 14th, 2018-03:49
very handy, but always good to keep them separate and not pull our both accidentally on passport check

I see. I have two passports too but same nationality...

 By: crown comfort : December 14th, 2018-06:22
but in the same name , still only hand in one ever.

Very nice shot! [nt]

 By: amanico : December 14th, 2018-05:45

Thank-You :-) [nt]

 By: FabR : December 14th, 2018-06:18

Love that Snoopy shot. I'm in with Stuart Little ......

 By: robmks1 : December 13th, 2018-07:57
And my Hemel. Bob ...

Me neither.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-10:12
Great composition.

Thank you so much Bob! Stuart Little and Snoopy: two experimented pilots indeed!! And charming to boot!! Great shot and a not commonly seen timepiece!

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-11:27
Very interesting!! The ball pen is very interesting also. It reminds me of some of the 1950/60´s whit a liquid inside which made the scene vanish when turneing the pen. Is your pen of that kind? In any case, charming rendition of a WW1 dog fight! Thank yo...

Superb shot...and such time travel to my childhood

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : December 13th, 2018-12:06
when such pencils had great value!! Thanks for this trip down memory line Cheers D

Same here dear D! [nt]

Nice composition! [nt]

 By: crown comfort : December 14th, 2018-03:49

With a theme like that...

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-08:05
And you as a host, a lively participation is guaranteed, Abel I was hoping to enter a suitable pilot's style watch, which arrived in Vienna today - sadly I am travelling, so no luck with that one (I may try to sneak it in on Sunday). In the meantime a sho...

Certainly was...

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-08:53
That attic had treasure troves aplenty

What a great trip that was.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-10:13
Now, we just need the Eurocopter...

I second that :)

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-10:37
I would accept a Sikorsky, Mil, Kamov, Bell... too

I flew on one.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-10:44
A big military Sikorsky, bunch of bankers on it. Then we ran into a storm and there were a lot of green faces. It was pretty funny.

It was pretty exciting...

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 13th, 2018-23:06
Until I saw the pilots, with a cigarette hanging from their lips, steering the thing. Then I decided I didn't want to watch that and instead focused on the puking bankers.

Had the pleasure regularly in the past...

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-20:21
Sadly less so these last years. But it’s generally good fun. Who knows, if I have the time one day, I might go and learn to fly one myself...

that breitling ! a rare bird in this area

 By: Seeks : December 13th, 2018-09:24
nice hunting my friend ! best regards

Thanks a lot, Seeks!

Yes, the Breitling you can't just give to any watchmaker... Best Blomman

The movement needs work...

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-10:41
Then there’s the matter of all hands being wrong, too. If you have a watchmaker you thing would do it I would be very grateful

I understan dear KM!! Regretably my old friend and personal watchmaker is rather ill at present, and I don´t know if he will reassume working. That´s a shame because he is...

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-12:21
... an old friend I appreciate so much and he was in charge of maintaining my vintage watches. I´m sure you can find a good watchmaker in your area with some searching. I hope so! Your Breitling deserves it!! Cheers! Abel

I hope so, too...

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-20:12
Now that my home area is about to change the project got postponed but I hope to take it up again soon 👍🏻

Thank you so much for your so kind comments my dear KM!! Appreciate so much! Your Breitling is so charming!!

 By: Subexplorer : December 13th, 2018-11:42
I wish you´ll find the watchmaker to fix it. This watch really deserves it! Beautiful classic timepiece. Interesting photograph you used as background showig an F4 Phantom with an awesome array of armament. Regarding the De Bethune helicopter clock; well ...

You are the one deserving thanks Abel :)

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-20:15
I didn’t have access to my watch pictures (or my aviation books) yesterday so I had to do with an archive shot. I guess it would have looked even better with a CF-105 😊🇨🇦 The other shots to follow Sunday!

Trust me, so am I

But sleep first, then going to the office tomorrow morning to pick the new piece up 😊

A bit of a broken wing bird at the moment but I hope it will rise to its proper glory one day soon

Resting, unfortunately...

 By: KMII : December 15th, 2018-02:56
After several watch makers decided against taking it on it kind of languished - much to do at work and now the move isn’t helping either. Will take it up next year, though 👍🏻

Some fantastic choices here, Abel!

Especially like that you still get to enjoy 4 engined aircraft on a regular basis (from your Tudor shot) - they are becoming something of a rarity in the meantime...

Four engined aircraft in general and the A340 even more so...

 By: KMII : December 13th, 2018-20:17
It’s a pretty plane - underpowered in the 200 and 300 versions but good looking nevertheless

On my way to Basel (I was late) to fetch the P15

But one hand was at the wheel so no wristshot. There are limits...

That´s good! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : December 14th, 2018-07:08

I'ven done better ;-)

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : December 14th, 2018-07:02
This time I didn't take the pic as both my hands were on the wheel. Over 250 one needs to be a bit more serious... ...

Very good 😊

Aircraft Carriers Helicopter Lava DH Chipmunks Who is bringing an ISS shot? Who? Do we have an astronaut?

The Baikonur just cancelled my launch last second due to bad weather.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 14th, 2018-05:06
That, plus there is a hole in the ISS, so I didn't want to go anyway. But I would have for WS.

Lol! [nt]

.. guess I sense a „self-winner“, all spots taken OR ? Gentlemen, start your engines !! I hear these roar.. Huuhh ? Still have to make up my mind, to not post redundancy..

Ha ha ha!! Thank you so much my dear friend HS! Glad you like my own shots!! Guess the Host is out of competition when doing his job! Lol!

 By: Subexplorer : December 14th, 2018-06:21

I recognise that document. After two weeks local study, on 3rd July 1967 I was the co-pilot of the crew who had to collect from the manufacturer at Marietta a shiny new Hercules C130K and deliver it to Cambridge UK. Your secret is broken! HAGWE Clive

Whoa. Some classified info in there.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : December 14th, 2018-05:10
Are you sure it's safe?

Declassified

 By: chippyfly : December 14th, 2018-05:17
The original C130K registration XV197 has now been sold off or was destroyed by the RAF as surplus to requirements. Showing my age again! Clive

Shot down

 By: chippyfly : December 14th, 2018-05:29
I have just sorrowfully remembered XV197 was the Hercules shot down over Iraq in 2005 and 10 people were killed. Terrible event. Clive

No worries, then.

No 007 coming for you.

Girard Perregeaux

 By: chippyfly : December 14th, 2018-06:15
Perhaps appropriately we can share a common interest? In From Russia With Love did not 007 wear or admire a gold G-P with a brown crocodile strap, so why his later apparent infatuation with Rolexes and Omegas? The conversation might save me from the bulle...

That´s a good one! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : December 14th, 2018-07:11

That´s interesting indeed! [nt]
