My attempt.

 By: amanico : July 17th, 2014-08:16
This one? Hmmm, a tad too complicated, with its 3 head 100th second shaver... This one, then? Well, a tad too basic, even if it is the only one I saw which measures the durability of summer. Then, it will be this one, a superb compromise in terms of bas...

If you turned in the first pic upside down ....

By: blomman Mr Blue : July 17th, 2014-12:03
Your second pic would look different! ;) And if you had the watch in black and sub-second, it would look something like this.... HAGWE, my friend Blomman ...

And if it was 44 mm big, with a HS engraved on the case back...

 By: amanico : July 17th, 2014-12:07
It would have been even better! :) Best, Blomman. Nicolas

The height of Longines design . . .

 By: Dr No : July 17th, 2014-13:16
. . . and construction, Nico. Subtle and alluring, simultaneously. 12.68N?

That Longines is fundamentally

 By: CaliforniaJed : July 17th, 2014-13:43
delightful. I love the substantial crown on that one. Very nice, Nicolas.

Very nice Nico

 By: Geo : July 17th, 2014-22:26
You have some amazing vintage pieces. GEO

The futuristic 1st.. A revealing 2nd.. A timeless 3rd.. Quite understandable these choices

 By: hs111 : July 18th, 2014-05:47
That Longines is even more than fundamental, it's compelling in its appeal - sober, but also cool !.. One Q be allowed: - which time period is the Longines - 40ies ? on a second note: it has some DNA components from the JLC159 (?) ( or vize versa) Best, h...

Aaah, hs, you are a man of taste.

 By: amanico : July 18th, 2014-06:03
The Longines is from the 40ies, indeed. And yes, it has something very close to the SHOM... It is a Marine Nationale Watch... ;) For the rest it is a totally different Watch. All the best, Nicolas

You could be talking...

 By: pplater : July 17th, 2014-08:59
...about a good 95% of the watchbox Andrew! Basic; simple; stealthy; sterile; these are (as you know) the watches with the greatest amount of personal appeal. This one is perhaps not the 'most simple', but it is certainly one of the 'cleanest', and (as it...

Ahhhhh, Nico...

 By: pplater : July 17th, 2014-09:11
...you always say the kindest things. It's a privilege to have the opportunity to care for this one. Now: this is a thread you could feed single-handedly. Perhaps, this time, you could be persuaded to bid for another category also? Cheers, pplater.

Each time I see this one....

By: blomman Mr Blue : July 17th, 2014-12:04
A cord strikes in me....! IT IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL WATCH! :) HAGWE Blomman

Understood, Blomann...

 By: pplater : July 18th, 2014-18:22

Thank you, pplater - I missed that!

By: blomman Mr Blue : July 19th, 2014-14:32
I will try to keep the pace up! But, i will never get close to "you know who"...! ;) Best Blomman

I've lusted after that watch ever since reading SteveG's review, pplater.

 By: CaliforniaJed : July 17th, 2014-13:47
What a wonderful movement all wrapped up in a simple, elegant package.

Ahhh, QJ!!! Good to hear from you!...

 By: pplater : July 18th, 2014-18:18
Yes, it was the same here. SteveG has so much to answer for (and to be thanked for), does he not? In fact, Steve was kind enough to provide some very helpful additional information about this piece - if you're out there, Steve, thanks again. In fact, ther...

indeed he does, but I'm not gonna spit the dummie!

 By: CaliforniaJed : July 18th, 2014-20:02
Here's another fine mess he got me into! Best, QJ ...

A very fine mess indeed!...

 By: pplater : July 18th, 2014-20:05
Hey, your 'Strine' is coming along nicely, QJ! Before we know it, you'll be throwing shrimp on the barbie at an electrifying rate of knots. :-) Seeya on the flip-flop, sport... Cheers, pplater.

That is simply beautiful....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : July 18th, 2014-00:51
.....really like it. More than like actually

And beautifully simple. We are...

 By: pplater : July 18th, 2014-18:11
...in furious agreement Baron! We are privileged that our hobby/passion/sickness should occasionally offer us the chance to have (and to share) little gems. Yes, a Greubel Forsey would be very nice, thank you, but truly the Be-Ba is equally satisfying in ...

Wow, pplater !.. That one ticks many boxes for me.. Captivating, low-key elegance !.. :)

 By: hs111 : July 18th, 2014-06:02
.. A truly very fine time-piece - lovely choice ! And BTW: this is a pretty good iPhone picture, if I may say.. All the best, also for the WE, hs

Thank you, hs...

 By: pplater : July 18th, 2014-18:05
...on both counts. Isn't it pleasing that there can still be such passion engendered by a modest, inexpensive, simple piece? Truly: a cat may look at a king! Cheers, pplater.

great piece - I thought your wife claimed it for herself?

 By: donizetti : July 18th, 2014-08:00
But maybe I am missing up things. Anyway, wonderful watch! Best Andreas

You have a terrific memory Andreas...

 By: pplater : July 18th, 2014-18:00
...but perhaps this time you are thinking of a different Be-Ba? ;-) Cheers, pplater.

ah, silly me - congratulations!!

 By: pplater : July 20th, 2014-17:50
...it would need life support! :-) :-) Glad you enjoyed the shiraz but (as you know) our cabernet is better again. I'm sure you know the 'top ten', but we should PM (or lunch!) if not. Is there anything happening in Oldtown in October? Cheers, pplater.

Those Chopard hands ...

Thanks Andrew. I have come to like the hands, too.

 By: CaliforniaJed : July 20th, 2014-20:35
They are uniquely Chopard as best I can tell, they are quite functional with their long luminous stripe, and the many angles are pleasing to me. I'm working on a mini-review that I plan to post in a week or so. Best, CaliforniaJed

3 hands, no date, manual wound. Ok, there is a flipping case but there is a historical reason for that. ...

simple

as simple is... HAGWE henry ...

Simple but with a lot of style

 By: AndrewD : July 20th, 2014-16:42
Love the blued hands and baton markers. All perfect. Some will say that the date detracts from the symmetry, but it is a watch with all the basic information you need. Nicely done. Andrew

What else?

Classic and elegant, clean and simple, slow ticking and wound by hand. A «classic» monochrom picture... one in colour... and one of the movement. Best Regards Livius ...

Basics.. Yes and No.. 4 simple, fine watches.. Not more, not less.. ;)

Well Ken, basics can sometimes be low-key, sober & simple, but also with compelling charme, and/ or silent beauty.. So I'll humbly play with these : 1/ Starting: one of my inherited loves - very nice daywear.. Round, 3 hands: Basic Seamaster, steel w gold...

absolutely - great quartet!

I really treasure these old "bandes dessineés" from Hergé. The vintage Red Sub (which I prefer on a leather strap) somehow goes well with these stories for me, although it is some 20-30 years too young. Kind regards and my compliments for the chosen topic...
