I like this hypothetical question. It’s been more than a decade of being addicted to acquiring watches. Sometimes I look at my watches and wonder if I bought them on impulse. Some pieces grew more beautiful in my eyes, some became regrets.
My regrets:
1) Grand Seiko SBGH273 - i felt betrayed by their decision to release a US exclusive to the worldwide market
2) Too many Blackbays - a BB never replaces a submariner
3) Letting go of my Rolex Kermit
4) Not getting a UN Maxi Marine diver
5) Not getting a De Bethune starry varius when I could
6) Selling off my GG Mickey mouse F1 Singapore edition for a 3k profit
7) Finding a gold JLC worldtimer geophysic true second, a few weeks after I bought the steel version. They told me the gold version was not available in Sydney, but it was sitting in the shelf of another AD
8) Not realizing that ceramic bezels are often glued onto metal bases and could fall off
My happy purchases
1) Blancpain FF bathyscaphe - this became a wonderful daily wearer with a long power reserve
2) Rolex Airking - this was a wildcard with beautiful curved sides
3) GP laureato infinity edition - it was a lucky purchase to find one in the AD before the hype started
4) Omega seamaster trimetal - a comfy dailer wearer
5) Finding a Speake-marin Piccadilly from the era where PSM was still signing the certificates
How I would do it all again:
1) Spending on more quirky mechanisms like jumping hours, entry level tourbillons
2) Spending on one big purchase instead of multiple entry level pieces
3) Keep a 5 piece collection instead of a larger collection of lower level pieces
