. . . any more - strictly a social drinker. It's been decades since a six-pack was a regular sight in my fridge. The main reason? Gout. I can only drink a pint or two at a sitting, then have to wait at least a few days before the next sipping session. So ... 

Actually, since getting the taps, I almost never drink when I'm out to eat anymore, only at home and virtually only with a meal. Most times I'll only have half a glass with either lunch or dinner but even then it's not daily...depends on what I'm eating.

. . . back in the '80s. Decades later Franziskaner appealed with its smoky taste, perfect with smoked fish. These days, it's mostly Modelo and Corona, with a pint of ale like Smithwick's thrown in here and there.

Growing up, there was this ad for Guinness stout, which was surprisingly quite popular locally. In it, a famous movie star and singer (George Lam) usually delivers the punchline, 'Are you afraid of the dark?' Or some other philosophical-sounding sentence....

My brother-in-law has it too. There was a Christmas party where he sat glumly on the side when the rest of us shared a 1996 bottle of Rauzan-Segla. I told him gout's a 'lifestyle' disease, so all it needs is more exercise, less food and no smoking. Easier...
