Very nice use of a Leitz jig borer

I would love to know what model David uses. Those are hard to find.

I wonder- if using a jig borer, why use endmills and drills-  every hole cut with multiple tooth cutters
theoretically has some runout- or at least, wouldn't be as geometrically round as a bored hole.
Why not finish the holes all with single point boring cutters?

Ultimate accuracy, especially when combined with a jig borer...
I'm betting that I'm missing something though.

I love the Knew Concepts titanium truss birdcage jeweler's saw he uses too. Beautiful tool,
I researched them further after I saw it here. I've wanted to try a Knew Concepts saw for years.
I can see they are extremely well made.

Loving every installment, hoping for many more. If David wrote this up as a book, I'd definitely
find myself a copy. I'm happy enough to see his work here though! Such dedication in one's work
is really inspiring to see. Makes me glad to be a Purist.

Thank you for sharing this piece by piece journey! You wrote: " A 5mm slot mill is used to drill the center hole. This provides a very precise hole at the expense of drilling time." What kind of time frame are we talking about here? Best Blomman

A drill is designed to cut on the front edge when plunging into material. A mill is designed to cut on the side when pushed sideways into material. Many mills can't be used to plunge into material because their geometry is such that they do not cut in the...

Leitz Jig borer

The model I have is refered to on the user manual as "Precision Jig Borer" I see no model number. I have added a photo of the Leitz, I have added Heidenhain digital readout scales to the X & Y slides. A very nice feature is that it takes 8mm collets. ...

David, beautiful jig borer

I am very envious- that is a really incredible setup you have. That's basically as good as it gets. While items of that caliber are rare, and thus very expensive- in general, I have seen many jig borers of small size sell for fractions of what they would ...
