Is there any particular reason why most watchmakers' benches are light green? It may be one of those truly stupid questions. However, knowing the world of watchmaking...

Dufour keeps a very organized workspace even if it is crowded with tools. I also can’t help noticing the blow drier to the right in the picture. His hair always looks great too.

The flat (non gloss) surface finish is easy on the eyes in brightly lit work areas. Not just found on jeweler's benches, but used on drafting tables. The material is also shock absorbing. If a small part is dropped, it won't suffer damage or bounce as far...

try red table tops and you'll see watch makers climbing up the walls - think chimps in the zoo - they would NEVER finish your Patek! Green also helps in not seeing red or dark spots after you closed and reopend your eyes to give them some rest or refocus....
