Watch jewels....

Can be any colour.
As many have said it is traditional for the jewels to be red. Jewels are available in "white" which is clear or blue or green.
Green does not look good in a watch, clear does not have the "presence", and blue is outstanding, however blue has to be a special order
and is much more expensive than a red jewel, I priced some a few years ago and the cost was 4 times more.
The reason for this is the blue material is not solid blue all the way through the rough boule, the center 60% is at the best very pale blue
so only the outer portion of the boule can be used creating a lot of waste material which still has to be paid for by the purchaser.
Hence we do not see blue jewels very often
The Howard Watch Co., Boston, USA used dark blue jewels to superb effect around 1900 for some of their specials.
