Sorry if I am not clear here. My friend is going to pick up a second hand annual / perpetual and the watch won't come with the adjuster tool for pressing the recessed pushers ( adjust the watch day / date etc. Of course he can use a tooth pick. I was wond...
Just an opinion
but I don't think a toothpick would scratch the watch. Most recessed pushers have a concave area where you put the tip of the factory supplied tool so it won't slide around on the pusher.
Plastic and wood are both going to work just fine
They are far weaker than steel, gold and platinum.
Many of us really use a toothpick as our go-to tool — hard to think of a simpler and safer solution👍

I recommend enjoying cheese and pineapple on sticks at a buffet
and then using the cocktail stick to adjust your watch, it's what I did
