I love the Contemporaine line, particularly ref. 81180. It is pure elegance.
Funny what you said about VC's acknowledgement that the large watch trend was here to stay as there is a thread about this topic on the HoMe Forum right now.
That platinum version of the 81180 with the gray dial is dreamy. I notice it does not appear to have the "PT. 950" inscribed on the dial as the Excellence Platine edition does. Does this mean that the dial is not made of platinum in this case? Is there a significant price difference between these two models? (I realize the Excellence Platine is probably not even available new in any case.) By the way, the 1921 is similarly described to have a micro-grain finish silver dial, so does that mean that the dial is made from the metal silver? Are these kinds of precious metal dials less prone to corrosion and discolorment in the future?
It is a shame that reference 86180 was retired this year -- it seems to have had a very short life. As for me, I prefer this entire line sans date.
These are just such elegant and pure VCs. Delightful to see them. Thank you.
