Vacheron Constantin Reference and Movement Information

Jul 04, 2024,07:33 AM

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Vacheron Constantin watch from the 1940s and am wondering if anyone can give me more information with regards to the reference number and movement. I believe it is a Cal 453 movement but it does not have any markings that show this on the movement. This is my first vintage VC and I think it is so beautiful Thanks in advance.

Jeremy

Very pretty - seems to be calatrava-styled case and lugs.

I wonder if it’s reference 4217. Am no expert either so could be way off base.

Yes it is lovely. Thanks!

The reference is 4073. Same style as case maker - Gerlach - as the 4217 but with subsidiary seconds instead of center seconds. You are correct in that the caliber is a 453 but it is unmarked as this is early in its run if I am not mistaken. Your watch dat...

Thanks for the information!

I see, I saw a few other examples of the cal 453 with many more markings on it so I thought this might be different.

A very good possibility

We can compare these catalog images but I like your suggestion of the 4073, nice find! ...

Early cal 453

without the later swan-neck fine regulator or shock protection, 12 1/2 lignes, circa 1940 as you already know. Those lugs were shared with several V&C models but the flat bezel makes me think of Ref 4300 which was in production into the 1950s. A hands...

Thanks for the information!
