It seems that your preference goes for the Lange. But, price apart, I would go for the Vacheron, in your case, the size being a big issue for you. And what a beast!

To go further in my thoughts, the Patek is the reference, here, in terms of world time watches.

But I prefer the smaller 5110, or the enamel version, the 5131.

Now, the Vacheron is just exquisite. A bit big in my opinion, for such an exquisite watch, but still exquisite with its enamel dial and platinum case. The thing which bugs me is that I find its movement much less exquisite than the Patek Cal 240 of the 5130 / 5110 / 5230...

For the rest, it is sublime. And, by the way, I don't really care that some watches opt for Geneva or Roma instead of Paris. But it is just me.

And the big plus is that you have the 37 different time zones of the world with the Vacheron.

A last point, the Lange is not a WT, technically but a travel time.

Best,

Nicolas

Man this is going to be a long post. Where do I start? I guess I should give you gents a brief on the Lange issue I posted about previously, so I had bought many Langes from an AD in Bahrain, when the Odysseus was announced and I was ready to put down the...

I fully agree, the Vacheron is the finest of the three by some margin. It would be a step up in my collection and unchartered territory for me. Is it worth the (Lange 1 or Patek WT) PLUS an Odysseus and an Offshore 43 to me? It just might be. It certainly...

I was not aware of the naming conventions. Thanks for that piece of info šŸ™

Pleasure.

Pretend the Vacheron just sold to someone else would you feel loss or recover quickly?

By your description I wonder if the named cities on the Vacheron would always bother you. Out of these three I would choose Patek and a close second would be the Lange. Your description seems to point towards the Lange with the added benefit of your futur...

You certainly don't want a war to erupt on your wrist!

Go for the Patek would be my advice The Vacheron, despite its numerous qualities, is too close in looks to a certain Montblanc to me

No brainer

WT is PATEK

Buy the Lange TZ

Then go for an Overseas Chrono instead of the Off shore. You might even save something to gift your wife, you'll get the excuse of a super deal you couldn't say no and you did for her!šŸ¤©šŸ¤©šŸ¤©

Agreedā€¦

Re the problems of city names. I keep harping on about this but why donā€™t the manufactures let us customise just the city ring??? I would let the VC go in favour of the Lange or Patek. This stuff is emotive - best to leave the offending city name for some...

Agreed!

 By: blau : July 14th, 2021-10:32
The city names SHOULD be a joy. Last year, when travel of any kind was not happening, I took a lot of pleasure in using my 5110 to travel for me--I'd set it to Paris one day, Tokyo the next, Mexico the third. There are city choices on mine that disappoint...

This whole hobby is an emotional one, and if one is to add a WT to their collection it should relate to them and any sense of national pride or association. Being able to customize the city ring is a wonderful idea! Now that you mention it it seems elemen...

I actually recommend that you do exactly that.

I sometimes have used the 'flip a coin' method, not to decide, but to figure out where my heart really lies. "Heads, VC. Tails, Lange." Flip. It comes up tails. You feel relieved: means you really want the Lange more. You feel annoyed: means you really wa...

I would go Lange

Think of reversibility, stress test your unvoiced choice and follow your heart

Congrats on the dilemma as it is a nice problem to have; all are nice watches in their own right. Trying to put myself in your shoes, herewith some thoughts I have sometimes been through of late: (1) is the choice reversible or irreversible: buying anothe...

This is an easy answer for me but only YOU can make it. Aside from all the other considerations which will fall away after tone and the novelty of acquiring the watch, the real test should be . . .

which of the three gives you the most instant pleasure when you look at it? Which is the most exciting to see at a brief glance? Which would you enjoy looking at most consistently on a daily basis? In my opinion, thatā€™s what we are left with and that is a...

Its a great (and lucky) dilemma to be facing

 By: walidk : July 14th, 2021-15:55
In the past, VC used to accommodate requests to change city rings (at least they advertised it when they first launched this piece as a way to keep up with changes in geo-politics; after all timezones in a number of countries are politically set). So what...

Vogard. They made custom rings for some 500 Euro. Has to be said that those rings are outside the crystal and can be easily diy mounted (The picture show a standard ring - but cool if you're in Apia) ...

I believe that was just for future DST changes,

Replacing the ring under the crystal with a cumtom one, would take quite an operation

Thank you all for your insight

I was pretty much useless today, I ended doing nothing but read about the three pieces and contemplate what would work for me best. The more I learned the harder the decision became. At the end it wasnā€™t the city naming that directed my decision but the c...

I see a lot WTā€™s coming bye in this thread. Not only the WTā€™s, as a high horology luxury watch brand Vacheron Constantin does it for me. Or the small exclusive independents. Patek and Lange, i think i mus see them in flesh to get a better look. On picture...

A great but difficult position to be!

I would pick the VC but I do get what you mean by the addition of that one city. Have you looked at some other brands? Like Bovet, breguet, debethune ulysses nardin, audemar piguet, arnold and son, anderson geneve, ming, glashuette original, daniel roth a...

The UN is really spectacular!

They make some really cool stuff and even though they are part of a bigger brand, still feel that they try to keep up their independent spirit!

I really enjoy this PP. Proportion and bracelet are excellent.

You need to see these three watches in person to decide. ...

That looks awesome!

I love that bracelet! Congrats on owning an amazing piece

Based on how you describe your tastes, Iā€˜d rule out the 5130 (which I adore) due to its size. Between the VC and the Lange, let your heart decide. Reading you, I think you already did. Which one makes you sing the most, imagining it on your wrist? I donā€™t...

Wow, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these choices. I will say that Lange and VC do make exceptional pieces that don't get the appreciation that Patek gets which is a shame. IMHO Lange and VC make more compelling pieces than Patek...

depending on the reference. I do see your point and from my recent purchases I have come to find out that I prefer Lange, Independents, etc...more so than I have with Patek in the past. Again, it just comes down to reference and what you are looking for.
