Is the 2215 the red headed step child of Vacheron steel sports watches?

Having seen one offered for sale recently, my curiosity was piqued, as I (mistakenly) assumed that Vacheron's steel sports watch era started with the iconic 222 in 1977. Except for a handful of rare as hen's teeth specimen from the 1930s onwards, the 2215...

222 is not Genta design

The 2215 maybe was just like a beta test, it looks like a rectangular RO (or reverso royal oak as you noticed). Don't know who is assumed to be the father, but I can say it's really snob and even exclusive than many new watches.

Thanks for the answer :)

Have you ever handled one? Curious what it is like 'live'...

Had forgotten about this!

I remember seeing it, and remember thinking 'nautilus'? It would be fun to get a hold of one and see how it would feel on the wrist. Would love to see any recent pix also, thanks for bringing this ref. back from the grave! S

From The Hour Lounge You are welcome, was curious about it myself ...

I've seen a lot of VC's in person, but never this reference.....

And it does have a bit of the curious charm of the red-headed stepchild. It also has the caliber 1096, about which we have little to say: Bill ...

Now you have made me even more curious

Namely with the caliber 1096, about which there is little to say. Because it is a JLC one, not finished to VC standards, not laid out elegantly...? Sorry, too new to this to immediately catch your drift

I've always thought that this was the ugliest movement VC has ever used.....

Completely lacking in charm in elegance. It doesn't seem to have been used very much by VC. Bill

Well, I guess it was safely tucked away behind a solid caseback

And managed the Chronometer certification... But see what you mean

Sorry to be late to the party

I confess to sharing Bill's feelings on this caliber but the base JLC 906 was even less attractive (Hour Lounge photo). To give credit where due V&C enhanced the base ebauche with a gold rotor, fine finishing, and replaced a plastic levier stop with p...

Thanks a lot for this very insightful response!
