Advise / Help needed before buying my first VC :)

Hi VC aficionados,

I am new here and about to buy my first watch from VC (my favourite watchmaker). I am interest in this watch but have high doubts as I cannot find anything comparable on the internet and the seller has no picture of the caliber and caseback...and not papers

Do you think this watch is legit, would you know the reference?;

Seller says it is from the 90’s but the closest I coudm find on the net was ref 7243P from 1979. The sapphire blue crown (cabochon Cartier style) is quite rare at VC. Furthermore the accent is missing on the « Geneve » almost always there for vintage VC.

Thank you for the help and advises! smile will send a pic of my VC soon!

Welcome. Look if chrono24 have a buyers insurance. Personally i am not a big fan of the ruby crown Cartier style. Breguet did the same at some models. VC is very very nice, i like that brand. The Quai De l’ile is my favorite VC.

It looks plausible, this type of crown was used by both AP and VC in the 70's.

I would compare the writing on the dial with other 7243P, for example there are a couple of those on chrono24 with high resolution images.

I don’t find the same ref

I don’t find the same ref and the seller doesn’t want to open it and take a picture from the caliber and caseback...

Did you search for 7243P? There are variations but that would be the reference number.

It is a tiny 30mm watch with a manual movement. Because of the size servicing of the movement is a pain - you will need a good watchmaker and can be expensive. And if the seller doesn't even want to show you the movement, who knows - there might rust and ...

To be honnest

Not sure the watch really exists and is referenced. I will try to ask through a connection working at VC

The winding crown with the cabochon is identical to some VC skelotonised and jewelled watches BUT

Hard with those photos to be able to have an opinion BUT The seller lives is in the holly land of watches, easy to request from him a letter of authenticity from a Vacheron Constantin AD or Vacheron Constantin HQ, which of course you will verify ;-) IMO I...

It cost quite a lot

160 usd for digital authentification, and 1k for real authentification...

Far less than losing 3-5K

I am sure you can phone/email a few watch dealers in the area where the watch is located that will be I am sure more than happy to help. Or even ask help here for someone living near buy, most people are always willing to offer their assistance. if you ar...

Not sure but looks fishy

The hands seem quite modern while the rest of the watch is clearly « old school ». I’ve never seen a VC with no dial indexes... plus even if real it’s a 31mm case...

Looks fishy to me too

Furthermore the seller doesn’t want to open the watch.

Regardless of brand

No information on the internet, no photo case back no papers = no buy

Agree on this statement.

You buy the seller. If they are not willing to pop off the back for a decent picture and there is no paperwork, walk away. There are plenty of trustworthy sellers of VC out there. It’s worth the wait to do it right, your wrist will thank you.

Exactly

If the seller won’t open the case and send pics, then I suggest..

Pass. My guess based o the shape of the lugs and caseback is that this could be a 33060. But this is just a guess. I share concerns that the dial could be refinished and the hands or crown could be replacements.

Wow good guess about the case

Found the case indeed; www.lotsearch.de C But I guess the one listed on Chrono24 could be a franken watch...
