I’m really tempted to get the 1942 Triple Calendar, with its nice case and retro dial design. I downloaded the instruction manual and was unpleasantly surprised by all the cautionary language. To paraphrase: “Don’t adjust the date between 7 and 12 hours. ... 

If you wear it all the time carefully, then you have no problems. If you rarely wear it, you will probably have to have the instructions on hand for the first 10 times (or every time) you set it. And probably 10 minutes of fidding about getting everything...  

I guess that the beautiful 1942 Triple Calendar and I would not be a good match of owner and watch. It’s as though I bought a demanding and rambunctious puppy, when I want a sleepy and inactive lapdog. Ano “But I’d sure like a fawn-colored boxer!” Nuevo ... 

...after reading the instructions once when I bought the watch, it takes me around 30-45 seconds to set my 1942 (non-moonphase). And I also have a case of toothpicks handy for such an occasion.

Sounds like VC should start selling branded toothpicks as a marketing device! I’m weighing the 1942 against the ALS Saxonia Aventurine, in a case of apples vs. oranges. The history of the 1942 is very appealing, as is its “hand drawn” visual look. A.N. ... 

But for a forgetful and unreliable hand winder like me, it means frequent resetting. Ano “Let’s see… is it Tuesday? OH! Friday? Wow.” Nuevo. 😄

Yes you should follow all these guidelines as violating them may cause damage etc etc etc. Here is real life; I’ve never worried about it so much and after 4 years the watch is working just fine. I know many will think I’m an idiot (which I probably am) b...
