The Aronde looks good both in WG and PG

Dec 20, 2011,05:35 AM

Being based in Japan, we had an early offering of WG Arondes and it is only now that the PG ones are trickling in (actually, the one I saw was a sample so it seems that production or delivery, at least to Japan is not in step with demand).

I am a RG fan and I liked the RG version more for its warmth which IMHO matches the vintage feel.  I agree with the comments on the somewhat excessive thickness and the lack of a display back and shaped movement (these points may have been clinchers for many Aronde fans).

I also noticed that there is no minute track on the dial.  This could have been a design choice necessitated by the guilloche pattern (or to keep the dial clean).  However, when you have to take commuter trains to work like I do (and trains are usually on-time in Japan), not having a minute track makes the watch a bit impractical for office duty...(of course, I realize most people wearing VC's probably do not commute to work!).

None the less, I think it is a very romantic piece which I still have a soft spot for.

Best regards,

Kazumi

See it in the flesh. Perfect on your wrist: The size is perfect. One thing which surprises me is the thickness, which seems to be ( too ) important, but still, have to see it in the flesh. It may well be a watch for me... Best, Nicolas.

A bit thick and no display back ....

... is making me a bit hesitant.... But overall score is very good! Ken

It has to be "thick" ...

Without "thickness", there would be no volume for sexy curves Oliver

Picky picky picky..... :-)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I much prefer yellow and rose gold cases when the dial has a textured finish like in the Aronde 1954. I wonder if we'll ever see Vacheron Constantin combine the Excellence Platine design codes in a watch from the...

EP would be really cool, here! [nt]

Yes, the WG makes this one more tempting

Such a beauty! In WG, the only thing that makes me hesitate is the round movement. I'd much rather see a form movement in the Aronde, so a sold case back here is my preference. Perhaps this he also needs to go on my long wish list. Thanks for sharing the ...

It is around 20 or so.... I hear.

Do you happen to know the dimensions of the original compared to the Aronde 1954? I would have loved to see VC bring back that form movement for this Historiques. Let's face it, that design worked in 1954 and it works today.

Comparing size

 By: Tick Talk : December 20th, 2011-06:56
The cal. 1400 within the Aronde is a 9 ligne movement while the shaped cal. 435 was nominally described by V&C as an 11 ligne size. Physically it measured 24.50mm x 17.80mm x 3.50mm in height and resided within a case measuring 39mm x 24mm x 9.5mm thi...
