Vacheron Constantin 42002 - views?

 By: KMII : October 7th, 2016-03:59
I recently accidentally stumbled upon the 42002 - a watch from the early years of the new millenium - and was quite taken with it. The relatively classical size (35mm x 8mm), solid caseback, nicely playful lugs and a very cool dial (not sure what you'd ca...

I think its relative small size is not a true problem as the dial aperture is big with a very thin bezel.

If you want to wear a classic and dressed watch with a great name I would say why not ;-) Best wishes Alkiro

Thanks Alkiro!

I\'m not worried by the size - for me it\'s an asset

Exactly ;-)

Best wishes Alkiro

I can demonstrably pull off 34mm :)

As shown here by Adam\'s Minerva ...

Great brand and nice watch

Best wishes Alkiro

Too bad...

That MB did not continue with the Cal. 48 (apart from in the Ultralight Timewalker)...

I personally find it a bit boring for VC

A fine dress watch effort---would be much better without the date--that includes an interesting guilloche dial; but when I think VC, I want to see more playfulness in the case and lugs. The case is plain. The lugs are straight and uninteresting. There is ...

Thanks John!

The lugs do have a playful element of you look at them from the side (straight from the top, granted) but I know what you\'re getting at. Not an imminent need or purchase, so more or less just testing the water for the moment

Nice!!

I think it is a lovely watch....right size with a good movement...so why not?

Thanks Cirotti!

As said, will definitely still need to think about it but seemed like a fun piece

I knew you'd say this :)

Would definitely have been much nicer without. I guess in the early 2000s the date was still more accepted even in dress watches...

With the date, it looks very 90's.

Without, it would almost be timeless...

I love these older VC's

 By: Mostel : October 8th, 2016-12:09
They are a little small... They have suffered bad resale value... But that is now created a steady or level price value... So at this juncture... I just love them for what they are... Yes, a little 'simple.' yes a little 'dated' But.... Great composition....

Thanks for your thoughts, Mostel!

I mind neither the size nor the solid case back And the value for money is undoubtedly decent - cannot imagine them falling further in price, so a relatively risk free venture. Will see how I decide in the end

I love older VC's of this era

Love the chronometre Royal, for example... a rather small watch, a little dated.... but I love it

Good tip - will check it out :)

Btw. which one do you mean, the Phidias one or one of the prior versions? Or this one? From: ThomasM ...

Yep that one

I love the broad hands and the Romans... it has the 'tension' of dial design that almost no watches have anymore... I want one of these! I just haven't found one with my name on it yet.

It is certainly a fascinating piece :)

Would not mind one myself

Right Size and Beautiful

Hmm, for almost the same price (ok ,maybe a little more), I'd prefer the Malte Grande Classique

Slightly bigger at 36mm, cal1400 with Geneva seal, display back, stepped lugs, and a nicer (IMO) guilloche dial. And no date ...

Interesting alternative, NT931!

Thanks for bringing this up. Will have to look into it
