Or maybe the company has changed

It was the American 1921 and the CDV that made me take a fresh look at VC. I think both watches are quite inspired.

What if this is a Patek?

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-14:13
I have been wearing this CDV 1955 a lot during this hunkering down period. It is a great size for my wrist and a super handsome dial to stare at. It is also a very comfortable daily wear considering that it is a stainless steel. I can't help but to compar...

I'm biased

 By: MZHammer : April 13th, 2020-14:45
Because I've never really understood the magic of the 5070. The oversized case made palatable by visual trickery, while well done, has never stood out as a particularly interesting design, I prefer the 5170 in total design. I love the CDV's very distincti...

CDV 1955 and 5070 are both quirky...

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-17:46
One has the bull horn lugs and the other has the oversized step bezel. They are definitely both classic piece as they are both inspired by vintage piece. Only Dato is truly contemporary. 5170 is very Patek, very discreet and very calatrava-ish. It wears n...

No contest

 By: sham1 : April 13th, 2020-18:33
Apart from sharing the same movement, the 5070, and I say this as a lover of Patek. has been terribly over rated. Way too large and this is confirmed when one looks at the movement and notices that the case is so much larger than the movement. The Lemania...

Can you imagine

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-18:58
what will happen if Patek's 5170 was launched as 38mm, two tone watch with Bregeut numerals? Or, better still, a stainless steel version only. That will be impossible to beat and difficult to afford.

I agree!

 By: sham1 : April 13th, 2020-19:11
Which is why the 7150/250R is the best Patek chronograph is for me in decades. Not only is it 38mm and the movement fills up the case beautifully but the dial is near perfect. Take away the diamonds and the waiting list will be Nautilus long! ...

OMG...

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-21:11
I didn't even know this exist. WOW...take those diamond away and I'm willing to queue...wow wow

Absolutely!

 By: sham1 : April 13th, 2020-23:59
Patek has a winner in the 7150/250R. Remove the diamonds and it will sell like hot cakes in any metal. The case back is a block sapphire crystal and makes the movement look even better.

Yes...

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-16:36
I consider the first series Datograph a legend. It is a watch that I have had 3-4 times. I am not a fan of black dial but I still enjoy the watch very much. It is a great piece of probably the greatest modern chronograph ever produce by any manufacturer. ...

I've always liked the Datograph...

 By: patrick_y : April 13th, 2020-14:56
I've always liked the Datograph and respected its incredible movement. From a movement perspective, nothing is better, except perhaps a Montblanc Villeret 16.29. The biggest problem with the Datograph has always been wearing it, which is why I never reall...

Very valuable insight from an individual who has owned both the 5070 and the VDC!

 By: patrick_y : April 13th, 2020-14:57
Thanks for sharing your insight! 5070 prospective owners have another watch to consider!

5070 is definitely worthy as a legend.

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-16:47
It has always been a very strong competitor in the past with Lange Datograph. At one point when i had both, I tend to wear the Dato everyday, simply because Dato jus look very well made when compared to 5070. Be it case wise or movement wise, it is that o...

I have both the PP 5070G and VC Malte Chrono, both produced during the same time period and both around the same size (42mm vs 41.5mm)...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : April 13th, 2020-15:20
Even though I adore my 5070G if forced to choose between the 2 I would choose the VC without hesitation, of course this would have to exclude the monetary difference as that plays a factor since one could simply choose the 5070G and sell it to purchase fe...

I love the photograph with the same background :-)

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-16:55
I have never tried the Malte Chronograph due to the size and yet I had 5070,..haha. I fell in love with the 5070 because it is just so damn popular, just like a Rolex Daytona. Once need to have it so it can rid it out of the system. That's the only reason...

Well said, Champ.

 By: destrodan : April 13th, 2020-18:06
The CdV also sings to me in a way that no other currently-produced chronograph does. I'm sure there's maybe an exception or two that will come to mind just as I hit the 'insert' button, but the design elements and execution of the CdV are just about perfe...

I continue to have good confidence with VC :-)

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-18:24
But honestly, if Patek does their homework, they can easily come out a new chronograph that will beat everyone. Patek has such deep history in this category. I am surprised that VC did first with this CDV 1955. I think that's because VC truly listens. Pat...

True

I'm reminded of when I asked my father (when I was just learning about watches) why he purchased an Omega Seamaster instead of a Rolex while serving with NATO in Germany during the 1950s. He looked perplexed as to why this was even a question and replied ...

Very well said...

being hungry to do better. That's the key to success

Great story from your father, thanks for sharing!

I love to hear that actually

I love my CDV

 By: MPP : April 13th, 2020-17:40
I have the platinum CDV and love it. I think the dimensions are perfect (for my wrists anyway), and I appreciate the combination of the classical and vintage dial layout with the quirkiness of the lugs. Something about it just speaks to me. VC could have ...

The current VC seems to be very different

 By: CL : April 13th, 2020-17:53
than 20 years ago. 15-20 years ago, VC's after service is not that great. One will hesitate to get a VC simply because of that. Right now, their after service is strong and they even have a service watchmaker in the boutique to help you. Also, they do lis...

Interesting to hear that they are planning to discontinue.

 By: Reuven Malter : April 14th, 2020-00:04
Its kind of with no alternative since most people would buy the SS model anyways. However this is what is interesting: will they be able to reduce the ss version as well? This would make them truly competitive to PP. (I wish they will not do that and just...

I think it will be good

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-09:15
to make equal amount of SS to the other two metal. Will be great if they actually release the number and communicate to the public,

Platinum model unavailable

 By: MPP : April 14th, 2020-08:28
I was in the NY boutique two months ago and was told they are not getting any more platinum models, and my AD also said the same. The model still shows up on VCā€™s website, but I believe production has already been discontinued. Interestingly, there are a ...

The platinum and the SS version

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-09:17
you see in Chrono 24 are mostly by order. So, you can order one and they will see if they can get one for you in a few months, No guarantee. I ordered mine that way as I can't get any piece from an AD . I waited for 2-3 months and it came from VC boutique...

They probably will send out to

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-09:31
those who ordered internationally. I know that they have been sharing pieces to different countries. The New York boutique has been getting pieces from HK and Singapore boutique has ordered from NYC too. It depends what the customers want and where they a...

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-10:06
I didn't know one can get from the ADs for the SS piece. I didn't knock on the right door .

I shall check them out :-)

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-11:00
Thank you for the info

I hope they know I am for sale too...

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-13:08

You should let me know šŸ˜‰ [nt]

Interesting that almost everyone is voting for vc here.

 By: Reuven Malter : April 14th, 2020-00:05
I well remember that many people were down on them on this forum just a very few years ago, like 2015 or so.

Or maybe the company has changed

 By: MPP : April 14th, 2020-08:31
It was the American 1921 and the CDV that made me take a fresh look at VC. I think both watches are quite inspired.

I remember differently :-)

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-09:23
When VC release the CDV platinum version and reviewed here, I was in awe. Then you have the Hodinkee version released, I was surprised by the metal choice but disappointed by the dial color. I was hoping for something interesting but , still, it is amazin...

I have to compare with 5070

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-09:19
and I tell you why . 5070 and Dato are the legends and I think this CDV will join them too. Not because which is better, I like 5070 too and think it is deserving of being a legend. I just think this CDV qualify to join them, a worthy representative from ...

Then I will have to buy that!!!

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-09:26
Arabic numbers are just yummy. Not sure how one can reach out to VC to do a bespoke piece... I may consider :P

Do they have such model in their history?

 By: CL : April 14th, 2020-10:08
I don't think they will do that for CDV but they may create a new one based on their other heritage piece. It is very possible if it did exist in the past.

Here are some... Ref 4178.

And look at this two tone one... ...

There was a lot more adventure and courage in watch design in those glorious days. Best, Daniel

Count my Pulsations

 By: ammerix1 : May 1st, 2020-10:02
They are stronger, if possibly less frequent, with the VC - which thankfully lacks a scale for them!
