One of not many?

Acquired at auction earlier this year, white gold, 1121 movement, linen dial and a hand-beaten case from 1972. It has its proper case and movement all checked with VC - but the case shape number stamped inside is for a different tonneau (2020Q). I'm wondering if I've got a one-off bespoke piece, the VC boutique thought it might be the case. I haven't splashed out on getting the full certification, only the cheaper extract from the archives. I might treat myself to that when it goes in for a service. I was curious if anyone has seen one like this.
