I second Nico's choice on Les Historique chronograph

As Nico mentioned, vs CDV, you get comparable movement finishing but pay much less. Such advantage is more prominent in this yellow gold version

Advice wanted - VC Cornes De Vache 1955

Advice wanted I am looking for my first VC, and specifically VC Cornes De Vache rose gold. I love the cow horn lugs, but I would want to get a preowned one. For the price difference, I can see a Historiques chronograph 47101 (early to mid 90s) going for m...

I owned the Les Historiques Chronograph in platinum and I loved it.

You just have to know it is 37 mm, hence, smaller than the Corne de Vache. I would go for the Les Historiques, personally. It is not that the Corne de Vache is a bad watch, at the contrary, but it is too high in price for me, compared to the Les Historiqu...

I had the 47111

It was the newer version of the series. I loved the watch, but found 37mm too small. Personally, I think the Corne de Vache is the chronograph to get. It is beautiful. I prefer it to the dato and is even prettier than the patek 5171.

Thanks!

Yah, I tried on Corne de Vache the other day with my AD, seems a perfect size for me. Unfortunately I have hadn’t a chance to try on a 47101 on my wrist. I already have ALS (but it’s not a datograph) and a Patek in my collection. That’s why I am leaning t...

Both are very beautiful, well executed chronos.

You can‘t go wrong with either one. The most important difference is case size and price. The Historique feels more like a vintage watch due to its smaller size, the CdV feels like a modern watch with retro design (which they nailed perfectly, imho). If y...

Would make me think hard about VC brand strategy if I owned A Hodinkee LE.

As a watch, steel black face would be a marvel though.

Tantalum, then? ;) [nt]

Yah a platinum would be a nice addition to my collection.

I would have thought steel was for HODINKEE LE only. But yah it would be nice if they have something more accessible.

A matter of taste and money

The better choice in terms of taste and style is for me The Cornes de Vache . I prefer the more classic hands, pushers and crown and the warms of the colored metal of course (depending on the look you would like to achieve). The recommendation for the afi...
