Which will you choose?

I'm hoping to add a VC to my collection, and I'm torn between the WG Traditionnelle and the Overseas small model. The Traditionnelle would fill the dress watch gap in my collection - currently I rely on my trusty steel reverso for formal events. (I have a...

Traditionnell small second ... but in platinum with grey dial

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 19th, 2020-03:28
That is a classy, beyond any doubt serious formal watch. You can also easily dress it down. I know the price is steep but it would be an absolute jewel in any collection.

No argument about that!

There is the matter of a lack of coin

Answer is in your question

 By: Jurry : January 19th, 2020-03:47
The answer can be found in your question. You’ve stated that: * you’ve got a dress watch gap in your collection * you’ve got 2 blue dial watches already * you’ve got 2 sporty watches already The above would lead to the logical conclusion that the Traditio...

Wow!

Thanks much for this comprehensive and well-thought out reply! I'll definitely weigh your advice very seriously!

Your most welcome [nt]

I think that the Overseas is actually not THAT much better than the spectre so i would go with the Traditionelle.

 By: Reuven Malter : January 19th, 2020-04:21
And the dial does not look "right" imo. Thanks for taking the relevant pictures!

Thanks for your frank comments! [nt]

Get the Traditionelle

 By: CastorKrieg : January 19th, 2020-04:31
Do not settle if you want a RO or a Nautilus - find a way to get one now or wait for the hype to die. The Traditionelle is a beautiful dress watch without being too classical.

Thanks!

The Traditionnelle is indeed a perfect balance between dressy and modernity!

Yes, agreed!

 By: Horologically_minded : January 19th, 2020-16:54
The Overseas might be an iteration or two away from the perfection, while the Traditionnelle is arguably the best dress watch in current production, all things considered

Best modern three hand dress watch across any brand. Thomas

No money, no honey :( [nt]

It's a very personal decision, only you can make it based on your intent and habits

 By: 1WatchMan : January 19th, 2020-06:17
If I were in your shoes, I would rarely wear the other blue watches again after buying the Overseas. On the other hand, I would wear the Overseas much more than the Traditionelle, as I don't really need a "formal" watch. I do love the manual winding Tradi...

You have articulated my dilemma! [nt]

How about a curve ball?

 By: vitalsigns : January 19th, 2020-10:40
Trade in the Rolex and/or Omega and get both VCs. That VC OS looks good on your wrist. I suspect the Rolex and Omega wear very big for you. Just an idea... Cheers, John

Unfortunately...

 By: Horologically_minded : January 19th, 2020-16:55
The Rolex and Omega were gifts from my father, and have special sentimental value. Otherwise, your suggestion definitely makes plenty sense!

Ah...makes perfect sense to keep them then.

 By: vitalsigns : January 19th, 2020-19:07
In that case, I would opt for the Traditionelle as it will broaden your collection and it is a great piece. Cheers, John

I’d vote for the Tradionnelle as well

 By: andyhud : January 19th, 2020-12:20
Im a proud owner of the Tradionnelle and think it is a perfect dress watch, despite its smaller size on my 7.25” wrist. I wear it less frequently than my GMT Master II but for its purpose it is perfect. You may find you’d wear the Overseas more since it i...

Perfectly worded!

Filling a gap in a collection before adding redundancy=boom. Thanks!

If you didn't have an immediate preference between the two after trying them on, I'd go with the Traditionelle as other are saying to add more diversity to your collection

 By: jleno : January 19th, 2020-12:22
Not sure if you considered it, but there's another other one I would be looking at for a time-only dress watch from VC: the 36mm white gold Patrimony.

The 36mm Patrimony is beautiful!

The diamonds on the side don't appeal to me though

The newer ones don't have the diamonds

I'll pick the Traditionnelle over OS

You may want to check on the preowned market, a platinum for sale at Far East Plaza. I have no affiliation with the seller. ...

Thanks! [nt]

Contemperaine line also for VC dress. I love the case design. Probably misspelled the model line name.

It's a beautiful range!

 By: Horologically_minded : January 19th, 2020-17:28
Unfortunately most of them have closed casebacks, while the 42mm range is a little too big for my liking

As an owner of the Rose Gold Traditionnelle, I would say go for this. I have owned mine since 2011, and I love it more each year. It is a brilliant timepiece. It is one of the BEST

three-handers around. The movement is superb and very reliable. The aesthetics are timeless. And this piece is as formal or as casual as you want. I love it so much I even wrote an article on my journey towards it for Deployant. I love the VC Overseas. My...

I have read your (brilliant!) review

 By: Horologically_minded : January 23rd, 2020-17:05
The Traditionnelle is indeed the finished article. That you would not hesitate to acquire the WG variant despite owning the RG is high praise! Thanks for your comments!

Traditionelle

 By: LemaniaChrono : January 21st, 2020-19:19
I really like the traditionelle over that specific OS model. I’m in a similar dilemma albeit with the 41mm OS. Not to throw a wrench into the situation but I have been considering the Japan edition of the traditionelle small seconds white gold case, black...

Ooooooh

 By: Horologically_minded : January 23rd, 2020-17:06
Yes I've seen photos of the Japan edition...but it's like hunting a unicorn no? J

Probably unicorn rare but I stumbled across it on TimePeaks

a Japanese auction site. I think there are 1 or 2 listed there. Here are the details: Patrimony Traditionnelle Japan 100th Anniversary Model Limited 75 Pieces Black Dial 82172 / 000G-B432

Why?

Late to the club.

 By: MTR : January 24th, 2020-18:05
For me without a doubt the Traditionelle! 1. It looks excellent on your wrist. 2. Why buying another blue-dialed sports watch if you have got already a Rolex Yachtmaster and the Omega Aqua Terra Spectre edition? Best Thomas

'Tis true! :) [nt]

a WG

 By: Weems@8 : January 24th, 2020-23:15
I would chose the WG. But if i want a VC, i want the Quai de l’lle. So many dress watches, i would take an Ulysse Nardin clasico. My next watch would be a dressy one for daily use. I consider a Rolex milgauss, a Bvlgari octo roma, Omega constellation, an ...

Yes the hunt is a big part of the fun! [nt]

I like to hunt also rare watches. And it feels great any time to score a watch who stood on the wishlist. The talk with the seller, see some watches, and pay.
