What is a fake watch?

Here is my personal opinion. What is a fake watch? I think the case or movement which fake, is not made from VC.Or the case number and movement number not matched (indeed, whether they matched simply by experience can not be correctly every time), only VC'...

I think perhaps

the more relevant question is: Are the parts original or reworked? Was the dial replaced and painted. Your question is a good one.

Your question involves a deeper technology.

Take this watch, for example. The casemaker's mark on the inside of the caseback is fine. Simply looking at the picture, the movement has the vxn code and is in good condition. However, whether all the parts are original needs to be disassembled then judg...

Two pictures aren't from the same place. One is from lug and the other from inside caseback. The French case does not indicate that the dial is custom in special color, this dial is restored without any doubt. If you still have questions, you can contact ...

The case looks very odd but the movement actually lines up if you google the 1002. This looks Frankenwatch to me.

Yes

and if you were going to the effort of actually faking a watch you’d fake something much more liquid and valuable than a one off vintage VC. My guess is that the dial is painted at the very least. But it looks cool so I’m not sure I’d care, unless I’m a c...

I think that’s right.

I was surprised to see you could buy that movement by itself online. The stick/baton’s are off at 6 o’clock. A painted dial makes sense since I dont see that colour anywhere online.

What’s off about them at 6 o’clock? First pic looks even and similar to the ones at 12 o’clock.

Couldn’t this be a piece that someone commissioned from VC, which could account for dial color…although I don’t know if that’s how commissioning works where you can choose a color you like even if not in catalog.

Wow - a lovely vintage piece. Love the handwork on the case. Hadn’t seen any green dial anywhere online

That said, the only way is to send back to VC for archive or better still authenticity certificate request. In my opinion it would be really hard to fake the ultra thin movement or case. Dial maybe easier, however, it maybe more likely that dial had been ...

not sure anything fake here - other than dia refurb
