Strange calendar hiccup

Mar 22, 2023,21:51 PM

Not having worn my Acqua Perpetual since December, I started to set the correct date yesterday. Normally, this is not something to think about twice, due to Ludwig Oechslin's brillant mechanism this is accomplished within less than two minutes.

This time, however, something strange happened. After reaching the indication of February 7th with the date quickset function, the calendar would not advance any further. At first, I thought the crown had returned to its winding position, but soon I discovered that it was no problem to change the date backwards. So I returned to January 1st, no problem, then forward again, January 7th was passed without hassle, but, again, on February 7th, the calendar stuck.

I then tried to influence the date display manually by moving the hour hand over midnight. I could see that the big date indication wanted to switch to 08, but in the middle of the transition snapped back to 07 again. Hhmm, okay. Now I moved forward the hands for another 24 hours, and this time, the date advanced flawlessly. From 08, I could use the quick-set function again to March 21, and last midnight, the date change to 22 went without any sign of trouble again.

Maybe the problem will show up on February 8, 2024 again? Has any UN perpetual-owner had such a problem before?

Marcus

I had exactly the same problem

It was few years ago and I believe also in February. I solved it exactly the same way you did: by manually advancing the time to the next day. My watch was serviced relatively recently and I don't know if it fixed the issue. Interestingly I never experien...

Very interesting, thanks!

Super nice watch

Do the day and year set as easily as the month and date?

Well, the day is not included in the quick-set function ...

I do remember that one and love the dial! My Marine Perpetual ltd (same movement) has not been serviced and has not done that. What I have done is to make sure it runs at least once a

I have never had that problem

I did sometimes have trouble getting the U-N perpetual's crown to cleanly fall into one of the proper 3 positions. I put a tiny drop of lube on the stem and it took care of the problem which I think was due to an o-ring dragging on the stem. I have had th...
