Aesthetically, I hear you, but the badge serves a purpose:
You set the time by rotating the crown. To avoid accidentally moving the crown, the badge is a flip lock. Flip it up to set the time, flip it back down to lock the crown. Probably other options to do this, but this s the one UN ran with 😀
Apart from it's not really needed
In 15 years of ownership I’ve never accidentally changed the time on my Freak.

I prefer the newer styles due to the open bridges vs covered bridges. It helps you to really appreciate the movement. Hence, I chose the Freak out over the original freak.
