...and I can appreciate where you come from. An example would be the Torpilleur Military, which is beautiful without the date. But, there are times a date has been useful. Hmm, maybe someone could figure out how to display a date on the side of the case rather than on the dial. On the Marine Torpilleur, it would be nice if UN made some more timepieces in the bead/sand blasted (I think) matt stainless steel case. I am wondering if they did a version of the UN Marin Chronometer in that case, both with Roman and Arabic numerals, would be quite nice. The thing I miss on the Torpilleur is the luminous bits on the hands that the Marine Chronometer has, which is quite useful on dark nights.
And regarding your interest in an absence of date from watches generally, besides the aesthetics, I tend to agree because of William Blake's Auguries of Innocence in a world of attoseconds to aeons:
To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wildflower
Hold Eternity in the palm of your hand,
And Infinity in an hour...
..without a date to mark the passing of days, one could possibly hold eternity in the palm of the hand...

I may be wrong, but it seemed not to be a terribly popular model compared to some of the other UN timepieces, particularly the immediately following update which did not have the "3D" dial.
