I found this vintage chronograph via the internet about 18 months ago.
I was aware the case back was personalised but paid little mind to it. My major concern was securing the watch for my Ulysse Nardin collection.
There appeared to be little interest in it and I was able to secure it for a very "keen" price.
Like most of the personalised watches I"ve purchased the story behing it was easy to find.
A few months atfer it arrived I decided to look into "JAY" and the "EIMAC GANG".
The "EIMAC GANG" were a group of radio engineers and hobbyist's whose goal was to be the first privateers to bounce a radio signal off the moon.
I haven't been able to find out who "JAY" was, perhaps he wasn't part of the "GANG" because I can't find any Jay associated with the "EIMAC GANG".
Too think, it was once the norm to remove these engravings on resale. Its a real pitty. I cant think of one watch I've researched that didn't have a very interesting story to tell.
Anyway.... here are the pictures... it is one of those watches thats a real problem to get a good shot of...!!!!
Quite a small case at 33mm
Dial parina. I do have another dial but I cant bring myself to swap it out.
Engraving. Who was "JAY".
Movement agjusted to tempeture. In my opinion Ulysse Nardin Valjoux 23's were second only to Patek Philippe;s hevily modified Valjoux 23's in this era.
One of the many styles of Ulysse Narden boxes I have.
I should probably do a post just looking at vintage Ulysse Nardin boxes.
