At very long last, I have purchased the Ulysse Nardin Freak!

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-14:05
My desire for this watch has never been a secret, back to its launch in 2001. When this new blackened titanium version randomly appeared several weeks back on the UN website, I was done. I immediately knew this was The Freak for me. I ordered it through t...

Excellent choice! Congratulations

The Diavolo goes even another step

I am not sure it is necessary on The Freak, but it sure is impressive!

Outstanding watch.

You even wear a matching shirt to the watch strap 😬

 By: Clueless_Collector : March 28th, 2018-14:44
Happy advanced BD, that’s a superb gift for yourself. Rgds Raymond

I did not want to be too much like Commodus in Gladiator...

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:04
We all know how it worked out for him after "honoring (himself)"! But, one very nice present for 44... it worked out.

Thanks, mj! [nt]

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:04

Cheers to you, Brother!

Good to join this club.

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:16
You know the desire to join has been there long before the funds!

Congratulations! It looks very sporty.

 By: Joepny : March 28th, 2018-15:33
Now after the honeymoon, time to plan for the 45th birthday gift to self...hehe

Hmmm... I like the way you think!

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:17
This Freak is quite sporty. I love it.

Magnificent piece, Michael.

 By: psychotic : March 28th, 2018-15:43
I think UN is a great manufacturer that caters to a wide eclectic range of budget and tastes.

This is very true.

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:19
They offer exceptional value across the entire range. And so far what we see under the new management is quite agreeable to me. Considering the very fair price of these new titanium Freaks, tourbillon marines with enamel dials in steel, etc. The mechanism...

Let the celebrations begin!

 By: AlexSunrise : March 28th, 2018-15:53
Huge congratulations, Michael! I´m very happy that you finally made your dream of owning a Freak come true! Congratulations in advance for your 44th b-day. All the best, Alex

17 years in the making!

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:19
And well worth the wait. Thank you, Alex.

Absolutely Amazing!!

 By: SALMANPK : March 28th, 2018-16:23
What a wonderful piece, the Freak is a horological masterpiece and I can't think of anyone who deserves it more. Congrats Buddy and wear it in Health S

You are too kind, Sal.

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:20
This one feels extra special. For many years it has been an unattainable grail. I believe I will appreciate it all the more now.

Wow!

 By: ripper444 : March 28th, 2018-17:00
That’s so amazing! I love it! Makes me forget my lust for the skydweller

I fancy the newer SD in blue

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:21
Alas, the watch budget has just been drained for now ;-)

I admire so many Ulysse Nardin models, but this has always been THE one I wanted.

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:22
Came very close to a white gold Cruiser in 2016. Glad I waited and this came along.

Congrats MichaelC

 By: d-star : March 28th, 2018-17:38
That’s a freakin’ awesome watch !! I love that one. Great choice in black.

It seems more might like the blue with titanium, but the black is very much my taste on this model.

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:23
And that is not an easy call, blue being UN's hallmark color. As I have been awaiting the arrival, I have already dreamed of adding an older Blue Phantom to the mix.

Congratulations!

 By: jmpTT : March 28th, 2018-17:53
Fantastic watch. The new releases are no less impressive than the originals, but they feel a bit more unbuttoned. A dream of mine too, but a few many years away. I remember meeting Nelson at a UN event in Toronto and he’s a great guy.

The Cruiser style mechanism is what I call open and airy, a bit more structural.

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:24
The older ones, more dense and strong. Don't give up on the dream, mine took 17 years!

Incredible

 By: right_wrist : March 28th, 2018-19:06
Congratulations! Its amazing!

Thank you :-) [nt]

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2018-20:25

Massive congrats on this amazing piece! [nt]

 By: Horologically_minded : March 28th, 2018-19:22

Mitch, you are one of the Freak leaders here!

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:17
It is great to join this small owner's group. I have always admired the watch and wonderful photos you guys contribute. The mechanism is quite fascinating to look at. Thinking back, I am not certain I ever strapped a Freak to my wrist before. Last Spring ...

outstanding MC and huge and sincere congratulations on this sexy sexy beast

I'm fairly certain it was ear to ear.

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:18
Obviously, this was purchased site unseen, so to open the lid on the box for that first time, very special indeed. I appreciate your kind words, Mo.

Many congrats

 By: russell996 : March 28th, 2018-22:39
The Freak still remains one of my favourite pieces, enjoy the Freakishness 👍

Perhaps these new titanium versions will help expand The Freak market share

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:20
In my case, it made it much more viable.

Freakish!

 By: manilx : March 29th, 2018-00:26
On my list too....

Excellent. [nt]

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:21

Huge Congrats 👏🏼

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 29th, 2018-00:29
The Freak is a UN thats on my wishlist for a long time . Maybe i need to take a closser look at the watch in the near future and pull the trigger . Wear it in best of health 🙏🏻🤗

Definitely check one out up close.

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:21
Appreciate your kind words

Congratulations M !

 By: Horology75 : March 29th, 2018-00:45
It’s a beautiful stealth piece & above all best wishes to the birthday boy . May you have many more and Iam looking forward to see a 45th birthday treat .

I must say, it wears smaller than the listed 45mm. Surely the black case helps.

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:23
So despite the monstrous size, it is stealthy. 45... technically, I have a few days to make 44... the reward came early!

Huge congrats!

By: blomman Mr Blue : March 29th, 2018-01:29
44, same number as your Magnum...?! Best Blomman

Let's just say this is not the only acquisition to commemorate the age ;-)

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:25
I can think of some rather cool photo sets...

If I may add myself to the congratulatory list ...

 By: Marcus Hanke : March 29th, 2018-05:37
I know very well what it means to know that a specific timepiece will eventually be yours, but you have to wait .... and to wait ..... and to wait. In my case, I had to wait seven and a half years to fulfil my dream of wearing a UN perpetual, but this is ...

It means a lot from you, Marcus.

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:28
Thank you. I credit your work on this forum, especially in the earlier years, as a large cultivator for my passion for Ulysse Nardin. I can clearly recall many of your posts - about the 160, the Sonata, the perpetuals, and of course, a variety of Freaks. ...

So what watch are you wearing today?

 By: NickO : March 29th, 2018-07:39
LOL! Great pick up, Michael! It's been on my hit list for many years too (maybe not quite 17 years, so my wait continues) and so I most definitely understand your attraction to this outstanding piece. Well done! NickO

Funny you should ask :-)

 By: MichaelC : March 29th, 2018-07:52
A photo is better than an answer I hope. Cheers, NickO! ...

Congratulations!

 By: tudorctin : March 29th, 2018-22:09
UN at its best! Always this is the first UN watch coming through my mind.

The brand is known for ingenuity.

 By: MichaelC : March 30th, 2018-08:55
And I also think of The Freak first and foremost. Really, it is the only reason I resisted a Sonata. I can only afford 1 high end UN in the collection, and The Freak is the one I prefer. Perhaps one day I can add a Sonata, which will remain high on my lis...

Fabulous purchase!

 By: Dave G : March 29th, 2018-23:10
Enjoy it!

Very nice pics and congrats..

 By: Echi : March 30th, 2018-07:28
Didn’t quite like the website pics but totally a different story with your shots! Very nice! What a 44th! Gotta love UN. It’s a manufacture that fearlessly goes down the path less travelled. Congrats again. I like really happy posts like this one Best, Ec...

I dislike the entire website, but I visit on a regular basis as new models tend to appear there.

 By: MichaelC : March 30th, 2018-08:57
That is how I learned about this model in the first place, and ordered it within days.

As a big fan of the brand...

 By: Dave G : March 30th, 2018-13:21
It pains me to say the website is just terrible. Difficult to navigate and doesn’t show many models. The old site from years ago was much better. It had a reference section with many older models which was helpful. They lost their way considerably in my o...

I agree, Dave. I understand it is undergoing updates right now.

 By: MichaelC : March 30th, 2018-21:12
I actually "Freaked Out" over it after I found this watch. A few days later, it disappeared from the site. In fact, I don't think it is back up yet. I was worried that maybe it was not coming out after all, but luckily, it was just web related.
