You just reminded me of a personal story about SusieQ

I heard Credence Clearwater Revival do it in 1968 and thought it was a great song. Never heard anything like John Fogerty!
A few weeks, maybe a month later my electronics shop teacher dragged an old juke box into the shop and assigned me to get it working. This was a 45 rpm version, with mechanical platter that rose up underneath the selected disk. After a few days work, a few vacuum tubes changed and some lube, the platter came up with a disk on it, smashed up under the arm and I heard SusieQ.
Only it was by Dale Hawkins, on an old 45 from the late Fifties.
Is any song really "new"? (Dylan might say no).
Cheers,
Mike

It is quite a haunting song. I used to listen to this song, but never paid attention to the lyrics until now.

The House of The Rising Son is an all time classic but the unfortunate part is, behind the hits they toured non-stop for three years, doing 300 gigs a year and hardly got a penny.
Back then, there were more parasites in the music industry . . .

. . . than at a vampire's convention. The list of artists who made fortunes for record companies only to earn pennies on the dollar is endless. Even bands own agents could be bad news. Moby Grape . . . . . . was drained by theirs.

...but after a listening or two I headed right back to the Animals version. Not sure about the staying power of Bardcore...
The folk version you posted above is really not a homage to the Animals.

One legend suggests that the song is rooted in English traditional music. Others suggest the song is Appalachian in origin, which would possibly give it Irish roots. Lomax senior recorded it in the 30s; Dylan in 1962. Not sure where the Animals heard it; ...
