Walk Called, on account of weather

San Diego County is taking a hard and weird hit from Tropical Storm Kay, which generated winds that gusted from 90 mph to 100+ mph early Friday and lifted temperatures overnight into the 90s°F, at the tail end of a long heat wave. The storm also increased the humidity throughout much of the county, making the air feel tropical.

Travel was dicey on eastbound Interstate 8 towards Arizona, where the wind was blowing up to 65 mph. Cuyamaca Peak, south of Julian, registered a gust of 109 mph!

Forecasters estimate precipitation from one inch at the coast to 3-4 inches in Julian and as much as 7 inches on the east side of Mount Laguna.

By 5am, the temperature hit 90°F in Escondido (and 92°F at the Cazalea house).

It wasn't as bad at our place as it sounds, but we didn't go hiking this morning. Instead, we did a little inspection of the rain aftermath on the flowers in our neighborhood. The walk reminded me of Hawaii and also a bit of England.

We can start with the succulents...

They are built to catch the rain.

These are known as euphorbia aphylla, and we have a half-dozen or more in our garden. Now I read that their "poisonous latex can cause temporary blindness." Great.

This is a Plumeria, definitely Hawaiian

Raindrops keep falling on me iPhone camera. I left the big one at home.

I'm not sure what this is, but I like its bright color.

It's been months since our last rain, and so far this has been constant and fairly gentle where we live, which is great because it might soak in.

I love the beading up on the leaves; it's great for the photos   and the plants.

This is an epidendrum radicans, sometimes called Fire-Star Orchid. It's from Central America and Mexico.

A Persimmon tree heavily laden with fruits.

Bird of Paradise with water dripping off its beak.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers 🌶 should bulk up again.

We saw three hummingbirds, but only got one in a photo and he was not at the feeder.

Speaking of flying, this might have been an "abort, abort, go around" by Alaska Airlines as it was coming down, then going up.

I always thought this was a coral-like plant. Now my wife tells me it is a coral-like coral, planted in the dirt. Huh!

That about wraps it up. No these are not at my house…

However, this is my ceramic Sea Serpent. The sculptor did three. He says Bob Dylan bought one. I wonder who has the third?

Thanks for sloshing along with us.

...you are getting lots of wind and we are just (finally) coming out of our brutal heat wave.

Nice pictures; weird weather.

Up here in Santa Monica, the air had a "feel" that reminded me of the Yucatan Peninsula. Not really all that pleasant, although any rain is helpful.

Stunning photos!
