Episode 3: Moth Attack (With A Side Of Bacon)!
In our latest installment of "Walks With Reign" we explore the strange and mysterious world of MOTHS! For some reason, these last few days we've been inundated by moths. Everywhere I turn I see moths -- big ones, little ones, fuzzy ones, white ones; you name it! I wonder if it's moth season in LA? I think moths are a little cooler than butterflies because they seem mysterious due to their largely nocturnal activities, although an acquaintance who studies butterflies and moths for a living, says not all moths are creatures of the night, some are active during the day or at dawn/dusk. Did you know that many moths don't have mouths? In their adult stage many species live very briefly (sometimes only about 24 hours) with no need to feed, so therefore don't need a mouth! Weird, right?
This moth was huge! Maybe 3" long.
Isn't the head interesting? Very alien-like.
The wing pattern reminds me of Damascus steel.
A smaller, but equally intriguing moth. This beauty was tiny; the size of my pinky fingernail.
I wonder if the moths are attracted to the smell of blooming angel's trumpets?
The blossoms have a strong, sweet-spicy smell.
Another moth I found pretty because it was lightly covered in iridescent powder.

It's been raining on and off here in LA recently. The gloomy weather makes me long for comfort food, and what could be more comforting than BACON! Food trucks have become very popular in LA, and 3 weeks ago a new truck called the Lardon Truck started its rounds. The Lardon Truck only serves foods with bacon. The menu is limited but the items are all tasty. They offer things like chicken wings with bacon, bacon/egg/cheese sandwiches, and unique items like the "baco" (BAcon + taCO) pictured below.

Reign is waiting for my bacon (no bacon for him, although they offered him a free sample).

This was a tasty, greasy piece of heaven.

Puzzles me
It's simply that no LA chef has wanted to come down here and that no local chef has thought that it would be worth the money to do. I have seen a local pizza place and a fish taco truck (both so-so) and only at events - that's it! I've heard that 20 truck...
We get about 2-3 trucks a day at my office. :-)
Yesterday was BBQ, today is French crepes and something else (can't remember), Friday is Brazilian food and the bacon truck may come, as well. Hope you get trucks soon, Snak! Cheers, Daos

Sweet & salty is a classic combo.
The brownie with Nutella and bacon was great. My other favorite salt/sweet pairing is caramel with fleur de sel. There's a little confectionary in Pasadena called Little Flower Candy Company that makes great French-style salt caramels that are to die for!...
