TimeOut

Fun times at a San Diego GTG

A very enjoyable week during a visit to San Diego, California.  Nice warm weather and great atmosphere on our drive to the Coronado area.  We arrived in the early afternoon in our hotel at the Loew's Coronado.  In the lobby is a grand staircase with a cool clock with the movement of the hour and minutes hand projected onto the main reception area.

Then a (surprisingly traffic free) drive north on the I5 to for some fantastic BBQ, and even better was to meet up with our Seiko Moderator Mike 'cazalea' and his lovely wife Laurie.  I've been hearing so much about Phil's BBQ and when we arrived there was already a long line.

Luckily the line moved fast and we had some great BBQ beef ribs and fantastic onion rings.  I would say that it was one of my top 3 favorite BBQ meals I've ever had.
Here's the mandatory wrist shot before we dug into the bbq.  Plastic bibs required with the bbq sauce and hands on eating smile

Next day I wandered around downtown Coronado and found a nice seafood restaurant across from the Del Coronado hotel.  Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill was excellent, I had a light lunch of fresh Peruvian scallops and a ahi tuna poke.

Afterwards I naturally found a cool ice cream place named Moo Time Creamery!

Refreshing scoop of peach ice cream.

Back at our hotel room at the Loews we ventured over to the activities dock and found something fun.  A Fun Cat!  It's an electric powered chaise seating boat.  Very relaxing and moves along at a leisurely 5 mph.

Views of some nice houses along the Coronado island area.

After freshening up in our room, time for a late dinner and meet up again with Mike and Laurie at a place I've been dying to try.  Chef John's Fish and Chips in the Lemon Grove area.  Wow, just like Phil's BBQ, this place really lived up to expectations.  Great light and crispy (and hot!) fish and chips.  I'm greedy with food so had to try out the sampler that had fish, shrimp, scallops and clams with fries.  Excellent!

Then a drive back to Coronado, but a quick pit stop for dessert.  We haven't been here in several years and wanted to check out the new location in downtown San Diego for Extraordinary Desserts.  Yummy!

Lots of choices, we ended up with chocolate mouse cake and generous scoop of lychee ice cream smile

It was a fun trip and great to see Mike and Laurie.  Hope to make a few more trips to San Diego!
