It's important to clean the pen periodically, more often if you have dirty, perspiring, and/or oily hands. The Urushi lacquer degrades in the sunlight. It's important to avoid strong light exposure, thus, don't put the pen where there is sunlight or under bright lights. It's important to have some moisture in the storage compartment, so it's not completely dry. As extremely dry environments may dry out the urushi. It's important to avoid getting Pilot's own ink cleaning fluid away from the lacquer finish of Namiki pens. And I would put the pen on a soft place after writing and keep the pen in a cloth or leather pouch to reduce risk of damage, light, and scratches.
