I like the criteria of being linked to my growing up. Here's my list:
1. New Kid in Town. I lived in the same house all my childhood and had a very stable childhood, but I changed schools twice while in elementary school. It’s kind of silly, but I always felt like the new kid at school who had to prove himself. At about the same time, I got interested in girls.
2. Night Moves. In high school I dated a college girl. It gave me confidence and insecurities at the same time.
3. My Old School. I probably liked this song for the same reasons I liked New Kid and Night moves.
4. Love Shack. The nicest and most down to earth artist I encountered while working at the Greek Theater were the B-52’s. They let us come right down to the front of the stage, hung out, and signed autographs. Just a lot of fun and have been a huge fan since.
5. Don’t Do Me Like That. The college girl ended up eventually dumping me.
6. Let’s Grove. Once I got to college I wanted to party and meet new girls. Maybe why I got dumped.
7. Look What You’ve Done to Me. My favorite song from my favorite movie, Urban Cowboy. It’s a movie about a couple that breaks up and the guy effortlessly starts dating a more beautiful and sophisticated woman who fawns all over him and buys him presents. The woman starts dating a recently released convict who treats her like dirt. The guy beats up the convict and saves the woman from a life of crime on the road. The woman learns her lesson and they live happily ever after.
8. My Prerogative. Used to be my tongue in cheek anthem for expressing not wanting to settle down and get married. I’ve proven that I have the ability to sing this song really loud.
9. What a Day That Was. Just needed a Talking Heads song. In fact, Psycho Killer used to my handle when the internet was in its infancy.
10. Heart of the Matter. I guess I started growing up.
Songs that I just like for no reason:
Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Sara Smile, Easy, Someone To Lay Down Beside Me, The Letter, Old Man, Kodachrome, You Haven’t Done Nothing, So Far Away, Peace Train
