Another legend gone. Vin Scully, the LA Dodgers announcer, passed away . . .

. . . just hours ago. Peerless . . . he was unquestionably the best at his chosen craft. And, like my other recently departed idol Charlie Watts, utterly humble. That quality is what I found most endearing about both. ⚾️ ...

RIP!

It would be difficult to explain how deeply meaningful Vin has been . . .

. . . to Angelenos. Fortunately, Kevin Costner . . . . . . has already said it for us. Art

Absolutely a baseball Legend

One of my very favorites. As a Red Sox fan, I still loved hearing Dodger games because of Vin. His impact will always be felt. Great post, Art. Thank you.

When I was living in the Bay Area, Michael, I would listen to Scully call Dodgers games on a Sony multi-band transistor radio . . .

. . . that was able to pick up broadcasts with minimal interference. When Jerry Reuss pitched a no-hitter in Candlestick, I was listening on the radio instead of watching on TV just for the allure of Vinnie's voice and incomparable baseball patois. Thanks...

I was born two days after the Dodgers announced they were moving to LA . . .

. . . in a hospital not two miles away from the future site of Dodger Stadium. I like to imagine myself as the original LA Dodgers fan. 😊
